USAF COMMANDO SOLO: AERIAL MIND CONTROL BROADCASTS

The United States Air Force uses aerial mind-control broadcasts against
civilian population as well as enemy troops. Some of these actions against
civilians are done with the intent of influencing public opinion and the
outcome of elections.
In a previous article, we examined mind-control technology, especially that
utilizing Silent Sound [TM], in which radio-frequency broadcasts carry
subliminal patterns that entrain the listener's brainwaves into a pre-
selected emotional state. According to ITV wire service reports, this
technology was used during Operation Desert Storm in 1991, as part of the
US Psychological Operations (PsyOps) directed against Iraqi troops. [1,2]
To the Desert Storm offensive we can now add several other incidents.
Alex Horvat, editor of The Probe, calls to our attention the 1998
video, Exotic Weapons of Mass Control, produced by Bob Fletcher.
"The excerpt played on Fletcher's video is from TLC (The Learning Channel)
and clearly states that Commando Solo was used in Haiti for what was called
Operation Uphold Democracy. As the general populace was violently
opposed to Aristide and most in favor of his ouster, it took nearly a year
of this clandestine counter-programming to get them to change their minds.
Instead of butchering a population physically, we can no manipulate them
mentally, virtually enslaving their thoughts with a criss-cross pattern
of flights by an EC-130 (which is just a C-130 heavily laden with electron-
ic hardware.) [3]
We were not at war with the citizens of Haiti, yet the U.S. Government
directed military weapons against this friendly, or at least neutral,
civilian population. The U.S. Government sanction the "rigging" of the
Haitian election by mental control of the people, programming them to cast
their votes for the Americans' favored candidate. And they had the nerve
to call it "Operation Uphold Democracy". Some sense of humor!
Stalin would have loved it. Hitler would have loved it. Why is the U.S.
Government doing this? Who is behind this flagrant violation of civil
liberties? Is it the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) which has a
long history of interfering in foreign government politics? Or has this
become standard military procedure?
The rationale is always the same: "to make the world safe for democracy".
Yet what is democracy if not freedom? Freedom to think your own thoughts;
freedom to express your own opinions; freedome to vote for the candidate
of your own choice.
Fletcher's video also mentions that the same technology was used against
the Bosnia population for a week to influence their election. [4] This
was probably done during Operation Joint Guard in 1995. [5]
The questions arise: If they have used mind-control broadcasts against
foreign civilian populations to influence elections, will they use them
against American citizens -- or have they already? What other countries
may be the recipients of this innovative technology?
Just what is this EC-130E Commando Solo? The United States Air Force has
helpfully published a fact sheet that describes the Lockheed built air-
craft. [6] This 1995 bulletin states that the "unit flyaway cost" is more
than US $100 million each, and that there are eight in the inventory. Its
primary function is "Psychological operations broadcasts". The crew
consists of four officers (pilot, copilot, navigator, control chief/EWO)
and seven enlisted members (flight engineer, loadmaster, five mission
crew.)
According to the fact sheet:
"Air Force Mission: Commando Solo conducts psychological operations and
civil affairs broadcast missions in the standard AM, FM, HF, TV and
military communications bands. Missions are flown at maximum altitudes
possible to ensure optimum propagation patterns. The EC-130 flies during
either day or night scenarios with equal success, and is air refuealable.
A typical mission consists of a single ship orbit which is offset from the
desired target audience. The targets may be either military or civilian
personnel.
"Secondary missions include command and control communications counter-
measures (C3CM) and limited intelligence gathering.
"Air Force Features: Highly specialized modifications have been made to
the latest version of the EC-130. Included in these modifications are
enhanced navigation systems, self-protection equipment, and the capability
of broadcasting color television on a multitude of world-wide standards
throughout the TV VHF/UHF ranges.
"Air Force Background: Air National Guard EC-130 aircraft flown by the
193rd Special Operations Group were deployed to both Saudi Arabia and
Turkey in support of Desert Storm. Their missions included broadcasts of
'Voice of the Gulf' and other programs intended to convince Iraqi soldiers
to surrender.
"The EC-130 was originally modified using the mission electronic equipment
from the EC-121, known at the time as the Coronet Solo. Soon after the
193rd SOG received its EC-130s, the unit participated in the rescue of US
citizens in Operation Urgent Fury, acting as an airborne radio station
informing those people on Granada of the US military action.
"Volant Solo, as the mission is now known, was instrumental in the success
of coordinated psychological operations in Operation Just Cause, again
broadcasting continuously throughout the initial phases of the operation."
Operation Just Cause? this is another propaganda name, applied to
the U.S. invasion of Panama to take out that country's leader, General
Noreiga, the CIA's erstwhile partner in drug smuggling. Apparently the
General had made someone mad -- how else to account for the massive in-
vasion of this tiny tourist country? To wit: "A superpower whipped the
poop out of 10 percent of the police force of a Third World nation. You
are supposed to be able to do that. It was done well, and I credit those
who did it. But it is important that we draw the right lessons from it"
according to an anonymous US Marine. [7]
Our Commander-in-Chief had another point of view: "...the roll call of
glory, the roster of great American campaigns -- Yorktown, Gettysburg,
Normandy, and now Panama."

MILITARY PSYOPS AGAINST CIVILIANS
In a phone call to the USAF Special Operations Command Public Affairs
Office, I questioned the legitimacy of using these subliminal broadcasts
against civilian populations. [9]

I was told that it was all perfectly legal, having been approved by the
U.S. Congress (!). It may be okay by Congress, but I sincerely doubt that
it would be approved by the recipient populations.
That conversation also elicited more information concerning the Commando
Solo units. For instance, the Air National Guard
of the individual states in the U.S. can also operate
Commando Solo aircraft, should the Governor of a state
request assistance. That means the PsyOps mind-control
technology can be directed against
U.S. citizens.
The Commando Solo aircraft have participated in the following missions--
possibly more, as the early missions of Volant Solo 1 were not known to
this spokesperson:
- Operation Urgent Fury (Grenada, Oct-Nov 1983, Jan-Jun 1985)
- Operation Just Cause (Panama, late December 1989)
- Operation Desert Shield (Kuwait, Iraq, from August 1990)
- Operation Desert Storm (Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Iraq, 1991)
- Operation Uphold Democracy (Haiti, 1994-1995)
- Operation Joint Guard (Part of a UN oepration in
Bosnia-Herzegovina, 1995)
- Operation Desert Thunder (part of a UN operation in Iraq)
- Operation Desert Fox (Iraq, 2 to 3 days in December 1998)
Other countries are known to have a similar aircraft, but the PR officer
declined to identify them, suggesting that I check out Jane's Defence
Weekly for such information. Not having access to that particular
publication, I searched through my copy of Jane's Radar and Electronic
Warfare Systems 1993094. [10] The Commando Solo unit was not listed,
but a browse through the book was informative as to the numerous types of
electronic offence and defence systems available. These include sta-
tionary and mobile land units (many housed in large trucks), shipboard and
airborne models as well as well as space-based technology. If the military
is spending US $100 million per airborne unit (times eight, we're talking
US $800 million here), I think it is safe to assume that they have tried
out mind control equipment with less expensive, roving land units (trucks),
but use the airplanes to cover wider areas and hard-to-reach locations of
the world.
And I might add, we can asume that they have tried out the efficacy of this
mind-control technology. Even the US military would not waste $800 million
on something unless it has been proven to work, and work effectively, even
under the adverse situation of military combat. This is an important
point.
The initial research into mind control in the USA was conducted udner the
auspices of the CIA. The flagrant abuse of human rights in experimenting
on unsuspecting persons was based on the supposition that the veracity of
experiments would be compromised if a subject knew that he was participating
in an experiment. In the case of mind-control technology, tehis supposition
might very well be true. But that does not justify its use -- or so said
the Nuremburg Code, the tenets of which were used as a legal basis to pro-
secute Nazi scientists for war crimes. However the US seems to have
excused its own military and scientific community from adhering to that
Code. [11]
MANIPULATING MIND AND BODY BY SATELLITE
The next logical step in mind control would be to incorporate this tech-
nology into satellite communications. Since other countries are known
to have similar capabilities, there could occur a sitution in which
electronic mind control warfare is waged against a civilian population,
receiving conflicting mental manipulation from both sides. What would be
the mental state of individuals so targetted? Would it cause a rise in
mental aberrations and schizophrenia? And what are the limits of mind
manipulations? Can people be forced to commit suicide? Can physical
ailments or psychosomatic illnesses be induced?
A March 1990 report from Bosnia-Herzegovina in the former Yugoslavia sug-
gests the latter may have already happened. The report concerns 2,990
ethnic Albanians who were admitted to hospital with complaints of lung and
skin problems for which doctors could find no physical cause. [12]
It is not a far step from manipulating a person's emotional state to influ-
encing bodily functions. Indeed, much of the literature on documenting
microwave effects on biological systems deals with precisely this phenom-
enon. In fact, studies of the physical effects of microwave exposure
(including radio frequencies) generally preceeded studies of mental effects.
A meeting sponsored by Defense & Foreign Affairs and the International
Strategic Studies Association was held in Washington DC in 1983. High-level
officials from many countries met for this conference. They discussed
psychological strategies related to government and policymaking. A summary
of the agenda reads: "The group will be discussing the essence of future
policymaking, for it msut be increasingly clear to all that the most effec-
tive tool of government and strategy is the mind... If it's any consolation
to the weapons-oriented among defense policymakers, the new technologies of
communications -- satellites, television, radio, and mind-control
beams -- are 'systems' which are more tangible than the more
philosophically based psychological strategies and operations.

"But we should make no mistake; it will be the 'psychologically based'
systems which determine the world's fate in coming years: the condition of
the minds of populations and leaders. And we should not ignore the fact
that the USSR [this was in 1983] is working on electronic systems to
'beam' messages directly into the brain. What good, then, are conventional
systems if these types of weapons are not countered? And, on a more basic
level, what good is a weapon system if public opinion or political con-
straints prohibit its deployment?" [13]
It is obvious that they found the answer to that last question. If the
public does not know about a weapon system, it cannot prohibit its deploy-
ment. This is the situtation that applies to mind-control technology.
MIND CONTROL AGAINST 'POTENTIAL' ENEMIES
The US military is aware that certain actions or procedures may not be
acceptable to the American public. Metz and Kievit express these concerns
in their paper, "The Revolution in Military Affairs and Short Conflict War."
[14] "The use of new technology may also run counter to basic American
values. Information age -- and in particular, information warfare --
technologies cause concerns about privacy... American values also make the
use of directed-energy weapons ... morally difficult, perhaps unacceptable.
The advantage of directed-energy weapons over conventional ones is

are, in fact, acceptable and desirable. That can only happen through open
debate. The military must be a vital participant, but not the sole one."
But there has been no open debate.
On July 21, 1994, the US Department of Defense proposed that non-lethal
weapons be used not only against declared enemies, but against anyone
engaged in activities that the DOD opposed. That could include almost any-
body and anything. Note that the mind-control technology is classified
under non-lethal weapons. [15]
A 1998 news item states that US Air Force General John Jumper "predicts
that the military will have the tools to make potential enemies see, hear,
and believe things that do not exist" and that "The same idea was con-
tained in a 15-volume study by the USAF Scientific Advisory Board, issued
in 1996, on how to maintain US air and space superiority on the battle-
fields of the 21st century". [16,17]
It seems that, in miltary parlance, a "prediction" means: "Don't be
surprised when you find out we've already got this, but it's classified
and we can't admit to it just yet."
Notice that General Jumper predicts that mind control technology will be
used against potential enemies. The military and government
agencies may apply this term to any group or individual they perceive as
a threat to their own interests. Potential enemies may be counter-culture
individuals, those of opposing political viewpoints, economic or financial
competitors, biological undesirables, etc. It is part of the military
agenda to identify potential threats so as to be prepared to meet them.
Experience has shown that the US Government (the CIA and FBI, for example)
has moved against these people or groups, slandering, harassing, even
killing them, without adequate cause or legal sanction.
A weapon that can be used in secret lends itself to abuse by unethical
individuals in positions of power. The military and secret services have
shown themselves often to be lacking in ethical constraints. After all,
the job of the military is war; it is killing people; and so,
just how this is accomplished may be considered irrelevant. Lesser evils,
like mind control, pale by comparison.
Of course, it can be argued that it is far more humane to brainwash a
person via mind control technology than it is to torture or kill them.
Others vehemently deny this. They'd rather be dead than a mental slave to
Big Brother! That is what revolutions are about. And if I recall
correctly, that is the idea behind the US Bill of Rights.
EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT WARNS OF DANGERS
Awareness of the existence of mind-control technology, and hence its
dangers and possibility for misuse, seems to be more prevalent than in
Europe than in other areas. The European Parliament recently passed a
"Resolution on environment, security, and foreign policy". [18] This
document includes these articles:
"23. Calls on the European Union to seek to have the new 'non-lethal'
weapons technology and the development of new arms strategies also covered
and regulated by international conventions...
"27. Calls for an international convention introducing a global ban on
all developments and deployments of weapons which might enable any form
of manipulation of human beings."
The United States will ignore these resolutions, of course, as it has
other EP requests; for example, as mentioned in the same document:
"24. Considers HAARP (High Frequency Active Auroral Research Project) by
virtue of its far-reaching impact on the environment to be a global concern
and calls for it's legal, ecological and ethical implcations to be exam-
ined by an international independent body before any further research and
testing; regrets the repeated refusal of the United States Administration
to send anyone in person to give evidence to the public hearing or any
subsequent meeting to be held by its competent committee into the environ-
mental and public risks connected with the HAARP programme currently being
funded in Alaska..."
One of HAARP's potential uses is a communications system. The military
officially acknowledges two communications-related applications: (1) to
replace the existing Extremely Low Frequency (ELF) submarine communica-
tions system now operating in Michigan and Wisconsin; (2) to provide a way
to wipe out communications over an extremely large area, while keeping the
miltary's own communications system working. [19]
As we have seen, the mind-control subliminal messages are carried on radio-
frequency broadcasts.

The HAARP facility could be used to broadcast global mind-control messages,
or such messages could simply be inserted into existing systems.
Dr. Igor Smirnov, of the Institute of Psycho-correction in Moscow, says in
regard to this technology: "It is easily conceviable that some Russian
'Satan', or let's say Iranian [or any other 'Satan'], as long as he owns the
appropriate means and finances, can inject himself [intrude] into every con-
ceivable computer network, into every conceivable radio or television broad-
cast, with relative technological ease, even without disconnecting cables.
You can intercept the [radio] waves in the aether and then [subliminally]
modulate every conceivable suggestion into it. If this transpires over a
long enough time period, it accumulates in the heads of people. And even-
tually they can be artificially manipulated with other additional measure-
ments, to do that which this perpetrator wants [them to do]. This is why
[such technology] is rightfully feared." [20]
A WORLDWIDE MIND CONTROL MISSION
To return to the USAF Fact Sheet, it concludes: "In 1990 the EC-130 joined
the newly formed Air Force Special Operations Command and has since been
designated Commando Solo, with no change in mission. This one of a kind
aircraft is consistently improving its capabilities.
The next few years should see continued enhancements to the EC-130 and its
worldwide mission."

Microchip Implants, Mind Control, and Cybernetics

In 1948 Norbert Weiner published a book, Cybernetics, defined as a neurological communication and control theory already in use in small circles at that time. Yoneji Masuda, "Father of the Information Society," stated his concern in 1980 that our liberty is threatened Orwellian-style by cybernetic technology totally unknown to most people. This technology links the brains of people via implanted microchips to satellites controlled by ground-based supercomputers.
The first brain implants were surgically inserted in 1974 in the state of Ohio, USA and also in Stockholm, Sweden. Brain electrodes were inserted into the skulls of babies in 1946 without the knowledge of their parents. In the 1950s and 60s, electrical implants were inserted into the brains of animals and humans, especially in the U.S., during research into behavior modification, and brain and body functioning. Mind control (MC) methods were used in attempts to change human behavior and attitudes. Influencing brain functions became an important goal of military and intelligence services.

Thirty years ago brain implants showed up in X-rays the size of one centimeter. Subsequent implants shrunk to the size of a grain of rice. They were made of silicon, later still of gallium arsenide. Today they are small enough to be inserted into the neck or back, and also intravenously in different parts of the body during surgical operations, with or without the consent of the subject. It is now almost impossible to detect or remove them.
It is technically possible for every newborn to be injected with a microchip, which could then function to identify the person for the rest of his or her life. Such plans are secretly being discussed in the U.S. without any public airing of the privacy issues involved. In Sweden, Prime Minister Olof Palme gave permission in 1973 to implant prisoners, and Data Inspection's ex-Director General Jan Freese revealed that nursing-home patients were implanted in the mid-1980s. The technology is revealed in the 1972:47 Swedish state report, Statens Officiella Utradninger (SOU).

Implanted human beings can be followed anywhere. Their brain functions can be remotely monitored by supercomputers and even altered through the changing of frequencies. Guinea pigs in secret experiments have included prisoners, soldiers, mental patients, handicapped children, deaf and blind people, homosexuals, single women, the elderly, school children, and any group of people considered "marginal" by the elite experimenters. The published experiences of prisoners in Utah State Prison, for example, are shocking to the conscience.

Today's microchips operate by means of low-frequency radio waves that target them. With the help of satellites, the implanted person can be tracked anywhere on the globe. Such a technique was among a number tested in the Iraq war, according to Dr. Carl Sanders, who invented the intelligence-manned interface (IMI) biotic, which is injected into people. (Earlier during the Vietnam War, soldiers were injected with the Rambo chip, designed to increase adrenaline flow into the bloodstream.) The 20-billion-bit/second supercomputers at the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) could now "see and hear" what soldiers experience in the battlefield with a remote monitoring system (RMS).

When a 5-micromillimeter microchip (the diameter of a strand of hair is 50 micromillimeters) is placed into optical nerve of the eye, it draws neuroimpulses from the brain that embody the experiences, smells, sights, and voice of the implanted person. Once transferred and stored in a computer, these neuroimpulses can be projected back to the person’s brain via the microchip to be reexperienced. Using a RMS, a land-based computer operator can send electromagnetic messages (encoded as signals) to the nervous system, affecting the target's performance. With RMS, healthy persons can be induced to see hallucinations and to hear voices in their heads.
Every thought, reaction, hearing, and visual observation causes a certain neurological potential, spikes, and patterns in the brain and its electromagnetic fields, which can now be decoded into thoughts, pictures, and voices. Electromagnetic stimulation can therefore change a person's brainwaves and affect muscular activity, causing painful muscular cramps experienced as torture.

The NSA's electronic surveillance system can simultaneously follow and handle millions of people. Each of us has a unique bioelectrical resonance frequency in the brain, just as we have unique fingerprints. With electromagnetic frequency (EMF) brain stimulation fully coded, pulsating electromagnetic signals can be sent to the brain, causing the desired voice and visual effects to be experienced by the target. This is a form of electronic warfare. U.S. astronauts were implanted before they were sent into space so their thoughts could be followed and all their emotions could be registered 24 hours a day.

The Washington Post reported in May 1995 that Prince William of Great Britain was implanted at the age of 12. Thus, if he were ever kidnapped, a radio wave with a specific frequency could be targeted to his microchip. The chip’s signal would be routed through a satellite to the computer screen of police headquarters, where the Prince’s movements could be followed. He could actually be located anywhere on the globe.

The mass media has not reported that an implanted person's privacy vanishes for the rest of his or her life. S/he can be manipulated in many ways. Using different frequencies, the secret controller of this equipment can even change a person's emotional life. S/he can be made aggressive or lethargic. Sexuality can be artificially influenced. Thought signals and subconscious thinking can be read, dreams affected and even induced, all without the knowledge or consent of the implanted person.

A perfect cyber-soldier can thus be created. This secret technology has been used by military forces in certain NATO countries since the 1980s without civilian and academic populations having heard anything about it. Thus, little information about such invasive mind-control systems is available in professional and academic journals.

The NSA's Signals Intelligence group can remotely monitor information from human brains by decoding the evoked potentials (3.50HZ, 5 milliwatt) emitted by the brain. Prisoner experimentees in both Gothenburg, Sweden and Vienna, Austria have been found to have evident brain lesions. Diminished blood circulation and lack of oxygen in the right temporal frontal lobes result where brain implants are usually operative. A Finnish experimentee experienced brain atrophy and intermittent attacks of unconsciousness due to lack of oxygen.
Mind control techniques can be used for political purposes. The goal of mind controllers today is to induce the targeted persons or groups to act against his or her own convictions and best interests. Zombified individuals can even be programmed to murder and remember nothing of their crime afterward. Alarming examples of this phenomenon can be found in the U.S.
This “silent war” is being conducted against unknowing civilians and soldiers by military and intelligence agencies. Since 1980, electronic stimulation of the brain (ESB) has been secretly used to control people targeted without their knowledge or consent. All international human rights agreements forbid nonconsensual manipulation of human beings — even in prisons, not to speak of civilian populations.

Under an initiative of U.S. Senator John Glenn, discussions commenced in January 1997 about the dangers of radiating civilian populations. Targeting people’s brain functions with electromagnetic fields and beams (from helicopters and airplanes, satellites, from parked vans, neighboring houses, telephone poles, electrical appliances, mobile phones, TV, radio, etc.) is part of the radiation problem that should be addressed in democratically elected government bodies.
In addition to electronic MC, chemical methods have also been developed. Mind-altering drugs and different smelling gasses affecting brain function negatively can be injected into air ducts or water pipes. Bacteria and viruses have also been tested this way in several countries.

Today's supertechnology, connecting our brain functions via microchips (or even without them, according to the latest technology) to computers via satellites in the U.S. or Israel, poses the gravest threat to humanity. The latest supercomputers are powerful enough to monitor the whole world’s population. What will happen when people are tempted by false premises to allow microchips into their bodies? One lure will be a microchip identity card. Compulsory legislation has even been secretly proposed in the U.S. to criminalize removal of an ID implant.
Are we ready for the robotization of mankind and the total elimination of privacy, including freedom of thought? How many of us would want to cede our entire life, including our most secret thoughts, to Big Brother? Yet the technology exists to create a totalitarian New World Order. Covert neurological communication systems are in place to counteract independent thinking and to control social and political activity on behalf of self-serving private and military interests.

When our brain functions are already connected to supercomputers by means of radio implants and microchips, it will be too late for protest. This threat can be defeated only by educating the public, using available literature on biotelemetry and information exchanged at international congresses.

One reason this technology has remained a state secret is the widespread prestige of the psychiatric Diagnostic Statistical Manual IV produced by the U.S. American Psychiatric Association (APA) and printed in 18 languages. Psychiatrists working for U.S. intelligence agencies no doubt participated in writing and revising this manual. This psychiatric "bible" covers up the secret development of MC technologies by labeling some of their effects as symptoms of paranoid schizophrenia.

Victims of mind control experimentation are thus routinely diagnosed, knee-jerk fashion, as mentally ill by doctors who learned the DSM “symptom” list in medical school. Physicians have not been schooled that patients may be telling the truth when they report being targeted against their will or being used as guinea pigs for electronic, chemical and bacteriological forms of psychological warfare.

Time is running out for changing the direction of military medicine, and ensuring the future of human freedom.

Why the Intelligence Community (IC) System Drives you Crazy, and How to Come in from the Cold

The above link is very interesting. It is a report by Michael Andregg. It was one of the first pieces that helped me assimilate what I perceived to be my personal experience with the Intelligence Community.

My original perception of the US Intelligence Community was based on logic. My belief, how ever naive it may have been, was that in the arena of National Security, only the best, brightest and most creative minds would be involved. I calculated that when it came to the security of a nation; it would be a travesty if the world's most committed, creative and patriotic minds were not gathered in service of a greater cause. Additionally, I believed that any such agency/organization would have/provide the best tools to maximize and enhance creativity.

My experiences post Foreign Service Officer test (getting "chopped up") were completely the opposite. The final conclusion that I came to by mentally reverse engineering my experience and analyzing cause and effect was that, whomever was running my operation, heretofore referred to as (X), was a very "sick" individual. Not only was X sick, I concluded, but some of his personal preferences were very interesting.

In hindsight, I realize that with the military controlling 90% of the Intelligence budget that the likelihood of creative development is very unlikely. The military's purpose, in general, is to create soldiers who follow orders. Creativity is not a highly valued asset. This is an unfortunate scenario since "terrorists" are very creative. In fact, the creativity of terrorists attacks appears to be there greatest asset i.e., USS Cole, WTC, etc..

Michael Andreggs words pack a punch; they are precise and concise. His handling of Compartmentalization, Clearances and Controls is exceptional.

Thank you, Michael Andregg, for shining a piercing light of understanding on some very serious realities within the IC. Previous efforts at Reform, Citizens as Enemies, and Good People in Evil Systems

Figure 22 illustrates another significant part of this problem (29, pg. 118). Systems matter. “’The turning of a few valves can mean the difference between a pharmaceutical company and a chemical or biological plant.’ said the Agency’s leading proliferation specialist.” (in 9, page 3) You can put 100% exemplary people into an evil system, and if information controls are artful those good people will chug away doing excellent, hard-working, first-class work … for evil. In their heads, they will be super-patriots, and the best will sacrifice even life itself. Many will sacrifice families, since the work is ‘so urgent’ and the management so indifferent to real welfare among workers’ families, or to squishy concepts like love, God, or genuine patriotism. Nazi Germany provided many examples of the good German worker serving evil ends, but Stanley Milgram (30) and the Mormon Church among many others have shown that “good Germans” are everywhere. Good Germans, in fact, are just good workers – exceptionally good workers who strive to please by doing exactly what they are told without excess questions or introspection.

Lest I offend everyone unnecessarily, a few words on the good German phenomenon might help here. We are ALL vulnerable to this, because we are ALL social creatures with some desire to conform. This was indispensable to early tribal groups that depended on each other for survival. Being social creatures, we calibrate our moral compasses by reference to the social group around us and its moral leaders. When your moral leaders and creators of institutional structure include deeply disturbed individuals like James “Jesus” Angleton (the previously noted and spectacularly paranoid former chief of Counterintelligence at CIA), you are at serious risk. Isolation from other worldviews by exaggerated fears for “information security,” and concepts like “disinformation” or “Satanic influence” encapsulate the dysfunction, and prevent correction.

This is the basic mechanism by which genuinely good, hard-working, sincere people who often call themselves Christians * can, with the best of intentions, be co-opted by evil systems. * (In America these will usually be Christians, but in MOSSAD these will be especially devout Jews and in Arab Mukhabarats [secret police] they are especially devout Muslims. Another thing learned long ago was that people in morally stressful occupations often adopt especially devout religious practices for compensation and frankly, relief from the stress.) Subsequent control mechanisms by the organization reinforce the fears, the penalties for talking to outsiders, the paranoia, black-white thinking, and ultimately the desire to conform. It is a mind control regime well understood by cults, and studied closely by the CIA during the MKULTRA days.

A Helping Hand...Or Two

Okay...it's 2am..I have to work out in about 4 hours but I have to write about this for two reasons. Reason #1 is that my friends keep buggin' me about it. Reason #2 is because if I don't I will forget about it.

This past monday I decided to get a little more serious about my bodyboarding. I invested in a board, it's called the Big Braddah and its made for guys like me who are pushin 240. I also got an O'Neill rash guard because my skin was getting tore up.

My friends and I headed down to Makena Beach's third entrance, also known as Big Beach. Big Beach is one of those places on the Southside of Maui where there are almost always waves. It's a skim boarders paradise. On this day there were some decent size waves. There were a few skim boarders and body boarders out and there is this one old caucasian guy snorkeling. Well, the thing about Big Beach is that you can get your ass kicked out there. Not only because of the waves size and power but they also break pretty hard on the shore line.

So this old dude, who I had seen floating out by the rocks finally makes it into the shore. I had just finished catching a wave and see him crawling on the sand toward his wife who is sitting on top of the bank. The waves smash so hard at Big Beach that the water is down a deep slope of sand. You can't even see the shoreline from the top side of the beach. So, I look back and this guy, obviously a tourist is trying to crawl out of the water and up the bank. As he is doing so he gets pummeled by a wave. He looses his fin, which he should have taken off in the water, gets smashed into the sand and pulled 3 yards back toward the ocean. I asked him if he's alright and he nods and doesn't say anything. So I stand there and another wave smacks him down and pulls him 3-5 more yards down th bank. He loses his snorkel and his other fin. His wife is just sitting in the chair above us watching. The third wave comes in, he had decided to come in at the beginning of a huge set, pounds the bejeezus out of him and is taking him out to the ocean like a piece of driftwood. At the same time he is gurgling ocean bubbles. So, I run down the bank, grab one of his arms and start dragging him up the bank which is at least a 70 degree angle. I'm going full speed so the next wave doesn't catch us both. As I'm pulling him up he says, “Not so hard!”. I say, “You're about to die!” He gives me a grunt indicating his slight understanding of this new profound reality we are sharing.

I drag him up to the top where his wife is still sitting in her chair, having watched the whole thing. She tells me his fins are still out there. I was a little bit incredulous at this time and began to understand how Hawaiian's came up with the word “haole”. I retrieve his two fins which wasn't hard because the next wave washed them up. I set them down next to his wifes chair and helped the old guy stand up. My friends and I think he was in his Seventies, Sixties minimum. Well, the guy had gotten so pummeled by the waves that he couldn't stand and went right back to the ground. Meanwhile, another local braddah runs up and asks if everything is okay. The local then asked the old guy if he wanted any help. The old guy was like, “No, leave me alone.” The Hawaiian braddahs son and daughter had been bodyboarding at the same time as me. His son was a cool cat and we actually caught some of the same waves together. I looked at the old guy and understood that he was safe and if he didn't want anymore help then there was no reason for me to hang around.

I head back over to where my friends are, a couple white dudes from Beantown, and pop a Corona. They were like, “Man!...You saved his life.” I thought about it and it was true but it didn't seem like as big a deal as you would think saving someones life would be. So, I just kept on drinking my Corona. They asked me to tell them the whole story so I relayed it. When I got to the part about the guy saying I was pulling him too hard my friends were like, “What an asshole!” Then they asked if he said thank you. I told them no. Then they came to the agreement that if he didn't say thank you before he and his wife left then he was definitely an asshole. So fast forward about 15 minutes after popping my Corona and the old guy and his wife are leaving. His wife walks by first and he is hobbling about 10 feet behind. So he walks up to me and my two white friends and can barely speak because he is stuttering so bad.

He says, “Wh...Whu..Whu..Which one of you saved my life? Who saved my life?” My boys were looking at him like wow he got f—ked up in that ocean. Partially, because he couldn't talk and partially because he didn't know who rescued him when it was me with two white cats. My boys pointed at me and told him that I was the one that saved him. The old guy walks up to me and says, “You. Your'e the one that saved my life?” I didn't answer right away because I was having trouble processing the whole “saved my life thing”. When I hear that expression; I think of the movie “Saving Private Ryan” or the non-fiction reality of Marines in Iraq and Afghanistan. I was just surfing. Also, the guy was so old that I thought he might give me a left hook and say “I wanted to die in Hawaii you bastard! You ruined it!”. Admittedly, my imagination does get to running sometimes. Anyway, I just nodded my head and said “yeah”.

He began to thank me profusely and then told us how it was his last day here, how he was on vacation and how he was from Indianapolis and then he kept talking. It was weird because we really didn't have anything in common. So finally, me and my boys were like, “Alright, well, have a safe flight. Be careful...etc.” We were polite, exchanged pleasantries and he hobbled away. I hadn't noticed but his wife was standing a few feet away. He hobbled toward her and she just started shaking. It looked like she was weeping. Her husband limped over to her and put his arm around her and tried to console her.

After my second beer, I finally put the whole thing together. The old guy was in shock in the water. He didn't know what was happening. He was going to die. The wife was in shock because she was witnessing her husband's death. When I started pulling on his arm it woke him up, like waking up somebody after they have been sleeping or knocked out. The Hawaiian guy ran down because his kids ran up the beach and told him somebody was dying in the ocean. After I left, the wife told the husband the deal. Then after the husband said thank you the wife broke down sobbing because she had almost lost her husband on the last day of their vacation.

Then there was kinda this big deal that I saved someones life, including some good natured ribbing from my friends. Lifeguard Jonas, hey, save my life, blah, blah, blah, you know how friends can be. Because of this and some persuasive persuasion I have chosen to mark this event with a blog entry. I don't really think its a newspaper story so I am not sending it to my usual venue, “The American Chronicle”, which is a mighty fine online newspaper. Plus, since I have retired from the political writing I have to put down something.

How do I feel about the whole lifesaving thing? Well, I kinda feel the same, like Jonas, except when I feel other peoples' energy about it. It wasn't a planned thing. It just happened. Heck, everyone needs a helping hand or two sometimes. I guess you're just lucky if there are hands that can help.

I was like "Wow Zach, that is crazy. One minute your enjoying a trip to your MBA program and the next second...wow"

HAVE A NICE DAY

Ahhh...hello fans and friends. All I can say is la buena vida or la vida buena, mucho buena to be exact. It has been quite a run since I started my first blog with OSIIS, The Open Source Internet Intelligence Service.

When I started the OSIIS my inspiration was self-preservation and vengeance through revelation. I am sure all of you know what motivators those two concepts can be. Fortunately, I had the cogency, presence of mind and writing skills to pull it off. Perhaps, the most challenging part was exposing myself to the world.

Privacy, solitude and peace have always been equivalent to beauty for me. That is most likely the reason why I turned down multiple job offers from companies like Aetna, Monsanto, Baxter Healthcare, Carnation and Procter & Gamble. However, one cannot overlook my disdain for boredom and bullshit. Nevertheless, I found that my most comfortable place was within nature. Whether it was waves, ocean, spearfishing, nature, trees, or gardening; working within the elements of nature and the natural has always been deeply rewarding. Years of Kundalini Yoga and Martial Arts have allowed me to be quite content without the influence of others. However, it appears you can only have a city mind in the country for so long before another city mind notices.

Someone did notice and that someone was Roger Kristiansen. I am not trying to out Roger Kristiansen; he was a good man with what I believe was a decent intent. Unfortunately Roger, if you are listening; the intellectual discussions we had regarding what was happening in America and the world that led you to believe I was a highly intelligent candidate for the US Department of State, were more than discussion. Those discussions were reality and the reality was peaking in 2003. So, a guy like me, who was too independent and creative to fit into that robot world anyway; was definitely not going to fit into some right-wing, neo-con, fundamental Christian bullshit. So, inadvertently or not, you threw me into the meat grinder or better yet, the Carnivorous Carnival. What I am getting at is that regardless of your motivations; I hold no grudges toward you. The good times were good times. One theory has it that you f...ed up with State and were trying to get back in their good graces. However, the source of that information says he represented No Such Agency and was putting an incredible amount of powder up his nose at the time so, his words are dubious at best, not to mention that he was the recent recipient of a terrible beating. But (I remember being told that you shouldn't start a sentence with but, but I am taking literary license with this composition), so as not to further delay the purpose of this piece which is the discontinuation of my interest in geopolitics and politics in general, I must move on.

There were many topics I was considering elucidating on for my next OSIIS article. First, I considered doing a piece on the impact, blowback and reverse effects that US foreign policy was having in Latin America. Country by country from, Central to South America (except, maybe, Belize); I was going to display how the US penchant for covertly overthrowing governments had backfired. Then I thought about doing a leadership profile on Sudan's President Omar Al-Bashir. I was going to discuss his participation in the Egyptian military and in Egypt's war with Israel and how these, among his other historical experiences, such as the bombing of the Sudanese pharmaceutical company (Al-Shifa, I believe) would prevent him from agreeing to any Darfur crisis resolutions that were beneficial to the US or Israeli interests. After doing extensive research on both of these topics, I still wasn't motivated.

What was happening?, I thought to myself. How could I not be interested anymore. Then, like the illumination of a giant light bulb, I realized the answer. I had never really cared about this stuff. The only reason I ever wrote about it in the first place is because it was introduced to me and I was capable. As my father once said, it can be a curse to be good at too many things because then you may never pick one. That was the point, I wrote the reports I did because I could. I believed that they were insightful and beneficial for America's future. And not being one to avoid what I perceived to be a great career opportunity; I plunged myself into the Carnivorous Carnival headfirst. That decision created no small amount of angst in my life but the main point is; I was never interested in the first place. The Carnival came looking for me (recruited). I was never looking for it. When it did come looking for me I was living on a remote three acre lot, tending my greenhouse and running a Honda generator when I wanted to watch TV or play PS2.

So that is pretty much the jist of it. I was never into it in the first place and I only participated out of patriotism and survival. Perhaps, most interesting is how the former got changed into the latter. So thank you, everyone for reading my work. Writing again has been a good thing in general but the content of OSIIS is going to change. What is next? I am not sure but, I have recently learned how to body/boogie board, I am working on a short film (all hijinks, no politics) and I am preparing to move to Europe. All of the aforementioned are exciting, fun things that I have always been interested in. No, they don't include a 401K and “security” but I been living this life a certain way so far so there is no turning back now.

For my final political commentary, I have the following:

I will always wonder what happened to Russ Tice and what he wanted to expose, but I think I know. Believe me people the truth about 911 and Abu Ghraib is nothing compared to some of the sickness being perpetrated under the guise of National Security. Call it conspiracy theory if you will but people just don't decide to all of a sudden go crazy in there 30's. Lee Harvey Oswald, Sirhan Sirhan and Timothy McVeigh are good examples. Now think Manchurian Candidate, A Beautiful Mind, 1984, The Matrix and Treadstone. Now take all those pieces, mash'em together and multiply'em to the tenth power.

The US Congress exposed MK-Ultra in the 70's. It was real. If that program or variations of it never totally ceased then what level is it at now in 2007. Use logic. I am going to leave it at that because I know Americans love their disinformation. I mean if we don't get our disinformation then we can't be happy. And if we aren't happy then we might have to seek the truth. And Lord knows that the last thing we want to hear about is the truth. I will agree that ignorance is bliss and that with much knowledge comes much pain. There must be a masochistic gene within me because I always had to understand the heartbeat of anything I was involved with. Maybe, it is because Scorpio rules my Eighth House and I have a few planets in there. Who knows but, suffice it to say there are no more mysteries for me. And the truth is that the “truth is stranger then fiction”. As Jack Nicholson put it, “You can't handle the truth”. The main challenge that people are going to find is that no matter what you try to do to the truth; it is impossible to destroy. You can twist it, you can bury it, you can hide it, but you can't destroy it because it is immortal. Additionally, it has been said that “ye shall know the truth and it shall set you free”. Well, I'm free.

I've also learned many other things on this journey such as some of Pliny's works, that at some point in history certain people wore bells around there necks, that there once was a land called Khazaria and a host of other things that I was curious about.

Good luck, America, you have got your work cut out for you. I have always believed in the ideas of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The ideas of freedom and government for the people and by the people are excellent. Hopefully, one day, those concepts can graduate from mouthwash to reality.

And to everyone in the intelligence community who got involved out of idealism regarding the aforementioned concepts; firstly, I empathize with you; secondly, good luck.

A large part of the reason that Hugo Chavez was elected President was his promise to enhance the quality of life for impoverished Venezuelans. It is not Chavez’s dedication to this premise that is in question; it is his capacity to expedite such relief which is proving to be a challenge. Therein lays a significant opportunity for international companies in the areas of consulting, city planning, engineering, construction and a host of other infrastructure related opportunities.

According to WORLDVIEW, a project of the Architectural League of New York, “The barrios or squatter cities are the product of migrations from the countryside and the growth of a 'city inside the city,' unattended for decades by the authorities. These settlements, built on public property or illegally on privately owned land, house 60% of Venezuela's population. Because the local government has no housing alternatives to offer, it looks the other way.” An estimated 2005 Venezuelan population of 25 Million means infrastructure, building and construction requirements are needed for roughly 15 Million people. Additionally, Venezuela’s population growth has been steadily increasing since 1961.

Another factor that makes the rebuilding of Venezuela’s infrastructure a ripe opportunity is that Venezuela is ready, willing and capable of making massive investments in urban renewal projects. In terms of readiness, as mentioned before; much of Hugo Chavez’ political viability as the leader of Venezuela is dependent on his ability to institute the promises he has made to poor Venezuelans. According to TIME, “Venezuela…still needs a further 1.6 million new units to meet the shortfall in low-income housing needs”. These needs extend into water sanitation, waste sanitation, electricity, communications, traffic congestion and more. If, as WORLDVIEW speculates, the barrio is transformed into valuable real estate in the next decade; then the value of this financial opportunity increases exponentially.

The Venezuelan government is so willing to move forward with infrastructure solutions that the Mayor of Caracas, Juan Barreto, declared he was going to seize the golf courses from the Caracas Country Club and the Valle Arriba Club and use the land to build homes for 50,000 people. Such a statement by the Caracas mayor is certainly an indicator of willingness to move forward on the infrastructure challenge. It is also an indicator that there is openness to creative solutions. Apparently, Iran has already begun capitalizing on this Venezuelan infrastructure opportunity. According to the Wall Street Journal, Iran and Venezuela have signed contracts worth over $1 Billion. These contracts stipulate that Iran will build 10,000 housing units in Venezuela and a number of manufacturing plants. According, to the World Socialist Web Site, “In Beijing’s Great Hall of the People, Chavez promised to increase oil exports to China from the current level of 155,000 barrels per day to 500,000 by 2009 and 1 million by 2012. In return, Chinese President Hu Jintao agreed to support Venezuela’s campaign for a two-year seat in the UN Security Council and to provide substantial economic aid, including a fibre-optic communication network and finance for a $1.2 billion project to build 20,000 houses.” Hugo Chavez’ willingness to invest in infrastructure is evident in the business arrangements he is rapidly establishing with nations and corporations around the world.

Venezuela’s oil revenues of $200 million a day, half of that coming from the United State of America, make it more then able to compensate for infrastructure improvements. According British Broadcasting Company Newsnight’s Greg Palast, “The DoE report shows that at today's prices Venezuela's oil reserves are bigger than those of the entire Middle East - including Saudi Arabia, the Gulf states, Iran and Iraq.” And “The DoE estimates that the Venezuelan government controls 1.3 trillion barrels of oil - more than the entire declared oil reserves of the rest of the planet.” This may be the reason The Financial Times says, Caracas has become “a magnet for Swiss and other international bankers.”

Investment in Venezuela’s infrastructure also provides a number of political as well as profit opportunities. As a pet project of Hugo Chavez’s, improving the infrastructure would be viewed by him as a great contribution to his political legacy. From observation, Mr. Chavez’ personality appears to be one of extremes based on personal perceptions of “kindness for kindness and evil for evil” rather than being purely anti-western. This is evidenced by his willingness to take consultation from London Mayor, Ken Livingstone in exchange for discounted diesel fuel that is needed to run London buses. After meeting with Hugo Chavez and hearing his offer to provide free fuel for needy people in Great Britain (similar to his previous offer to needy Americans) during the winter, Mayor Livingstone described Hugo Chavez as “the best news out of Latin America in many years.” At the same time, Hugo Chavez has referred to Tony Blair as an ally of Hitler in relation to his friendship with George Bush. This confirms that Hugo Chavez interprets his relationships on a personal basis. Other indicators also confirm this.

Besides the fact that Chavez is open to Western influence and will give away oil; infrastructure investment will give any participating country/corporation a foothold and opportunity for greater participation in the Venezuelan oil and oil services industry whose infrastructure is in need of repair and expertise. Based on the aforementioned Department of Energy report this could be a major opportunity for long-term oil security, profitability, Central/South American political influence and a big foot in the business door of emerging Latin American markets.

Considerations of non-diplomatic activities to achieve oil security in Venezuela should bear in mind the way diplomatic verse non-diplomatic methods have played out in Iraq and Iran. In Iraq; France, Germany, Russia and China had beaten the United States to the punch and made business deals which gave them large shares of Iraq’s oil assets. The United States went to war and indicated to the aforementioned countries that “you’re either with us or against us” and countries not supporting the war in Iraq would lose their business interests. Now, the United States is embroiled in a war that by all accounts it is losing and costing it billions of dollars. Getting out of Iraq has taken precedent over oil. Not to mention the United States’ “with us or against us” mentality has given several major world powers a reason to hope for, at the least, a decisive U.S. loss in Iraq.

Iran, which was subject to U.S. overthrow and labeled as part of “the axis of evil”, has been the subject of discussions regarding a bombing of their nuclear facilities. Now the U.S., hat in hand, is requesting their assistance in extricating themselves from Iraq. To avoid such humiliating examples in the future, which result in an enormous loss of face and the creation of more enemies; any country or company that seeks to take advantage of the infrastructure opportunities in Venezuela should follow the successfully established business model. The best businessmen will get the best deals.

Fiction Book Review: Neural Net 3001

Deep inside the catacombs of the Department of Defense, a coterie of thinkers ensconced in the “black operations” world of “Special Access” and “Training” programs have created “Neural Net 3001”. Neural Net 3001 takes the most advanced technology and science known to man and applies it to mastering the human mind and its thought processes. Through the direction of modulated signals within a certain frequency band, the NN3K1 Group has learned how to control the human mind.

Vast denizens of politicians and lawmakers are unknowingly manipulated through this thought mastering technology. NN3K1 is on the verge of controlling the world. Fortunately, for the founders of this cabal, they have managed to have themselves enshrined in the most secret of classifications, thus preventing any review or auditing of their operations. This is perfect for NN3K1 as they are agents of foreign powers.

Unfortunately, for NN3K1 in their zeal for global mind domination they tap into a mind better left alone. They tap directly into the GodMind which they have been attempting to displace in all their subjects. This is where the fun begins in Neural Net 3001.

Neural Net 3001 reminds me somewhat of a Robert Redford movie. In this movie, Mr. Redford is a reader for the CIA, I believe. His job is to read published fiction material and determine whether there is any plausible possibilities contained in that piece of fiction. Mr. Redford reads a book about a secret agency within the agency that is usurping power and implementing detrimental policy toward the United States. Mr. Redford writes a report saying that he believes some such thing is plausible and should be investigated. Unfortunately, the conspiracy is vast and wide. Mr. Redford’s report becomes his death certificate. The remainder of the movie is Mr. Redford trying to survive while the person he needs to trust is trying to kill him.

Neural Net 3001 is also reminiscent of “The Matrix” in how it deals with the power, electricity and heat generated by the human body. The choice between the red and the blue pill would be an appropriate symbolism for the hero of Neural Net 3000.

Neural Net 3001 does touch on some familiar spy grounds. There are several passages that seem to allude to the real life theories of Anatoliy Golitsyn .

Neural Net 3001 is an interesting book but a little bit out of this world. Its premises are a bit far-reaching and hard to believe. You definitely need an active imagination to enjoy it. Yet, it is a fiction book and if you embrace it as such you are sure to have a good read. Neural Net 3001, I give it a C+. It’s a guaranteed winner for light reading at the beach.

Much ado has been made about the comments of senior members within the Democratic Party regarding the possible impeachment of President Bush. Some, such as myself support it vigorously, however I am fortunate enough that I do not have to do all the leg work, legal research and logistics to participate in determining whether such actions are warranted. Those to whom it is left to determine that particular fate are required to pursue it through means that are much more subtle, intricate, delicate and complex than any blog rant of mine. I believe that it would be improper, for any politician, without having performed the required due diligence, to suggest whether the President will be impeached. That would show bias.

Yes, we writers are able to say that the President should or should not be impeached. We are also able to ask with fervor, “Are you going to impeach the President”? We have that right because we are American’s and the laws of the land preserve that right. Politicians don’t have such liberty so as to throw timing to the wind. So, if pressed in an untimely manner on such an issue a wise politician would certainly say no. They would probably do that for a couple of reasons. First, as I mentioned, there is much work to be done before there can be any such determination. Secondly, there is no need for the Democratic leadership to be guilty of the same brusqueness, arrogance and hubris of which the current administration has been a participant.

In the political field, let us have two things happen which have absent from American politics for some time. Let the laws of the land which were created by the founders of this country do their work for the American people and let the representatives of the people truly represent the people. If we trust in those factors contained in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and the truths they contain therein then, we can rest assured and secure that Justice and Balance will reign.

If there is a bit of Diplomacy occurring in the early stages of the Democratic resurgence then that is beautiful. Because diplomacy is also something that has been missing for far too long. Congrats to the Crats; as the polls reflected, America is looking forward to your reign.

Security or Strategy: Either Way, Bush Must Go!

Now that the House and Senate are surfing on the anti-Bush big wave there is a moment of opportunity that must not be squandered. President Bush must be impeached or forced to resign before he can be impeached.

First and foremost, from a national security perspective, President Bush has made this country weaker. Whether it is long term access to proven oil reserves or, the 5 Billion gallons of oil that has been consumed during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan or, the loss of potential oil properties to other nations or, the global hatred for America or, the missing weapons of mass destruction or, creating more terrorists that hate America, or leading 3,000 American soldiers to their death or, turning the US into the world’s biggest tyrant or, nurturing hatred for the United States around the world, or trying to impose his personal beliefs on the rest of the world or, approving the largest domestic spying operation on American citizens in US history or, reading a book while the world trade centers burned. There is no good thing left about Bush. Every move, every action he has taken has made America weaker. Not to mention Abu Graib, Plamegate, secret prisons and Jack Abramoff. Without a doubt, George W. Bush will go down as one of the worst, if not the worst, President in the history of the United States. His legacy will be one of how not to be President.

At what time in American history has the US Bill of Rights and Constitution ever been so viciously attacked? While America’s youth is dying in some godforsaken—hold on…deep breaths; while America’s men and women in uniform give everything they have, sacrificing life, limb, family and home for America; George W. Bush and the neocons are shoving the Patriot Act down our throats, doing end runs around the FISA courts and spying on more Americans than J. Edgar Hoover ever did. Thank God, for all the military people which have stepped forward to question this President regardless of the threat to their careers. They placed principles before power.

George W. Bush has done more damage to this country’s reputation during his term than anyone in the history of the country. The NeoCon deception, backstabbing, attacking, lying, propaganda machine was an unstoppable behemoth until the Democratic Party and its strategist put an end to its lies with victories in the House and Senate. The next day; Donald Rumsfeld resigns while Bush makes nice with Nancy Pelosi. It’s so obvious and so sick; that we are dealing with a culture of corruption that has no commitment to anything except greed and survival. It is so ugly, snakelike and separate from our natural process that we don’t want to see it. The truth is that there are a people who care only about themselves, their power and their money. Anything that comes from their mouths is to protect one of those things. It has nothing to do with principles.

Impeaching George Bush is the only way for America to wipe the slate clean. It is the only way for America to get a fresh start at home and abroad. It is the only proper way for America to cleanse its wounds and start a sincere healing process. It is the only way to get our soldiers home and protect them while they are overseas. Impeaching George Bush is really the only way that America still has a real future. It is a window of opportunity. Before you can clean up a huge mess you have to stop the mess maker.

If impeachment isn’t pursued Democrats are going to get kicked in the ass and may not win the next election. Even if they win the next election, if impeachment was not pursued, they are not going to be able to blame Bush while they clean up behind him. And there is, oh so much cleaning to do! Speaking of elections, I came upon a fascinating point while reading David Swanson’s excellent article, “A Bulk Rate on Printing Subpoenas?” published in the American Chronicle. As Mr. Swanson so eloquently put it, “In each of the nine cases in the past when one party has raised impeachment, that party has benefitted in the next elections. In other cases when a party has failed to press for impeachment when the grounds for it were widely known, that party has suffered. (Remember Iran Contra?)” Thank you, Dave. When I read that it resonated, it touched a chord. Karl Rove and the neocon strategist would be eating up and utilizing that type of information like a free all you can eat buffet at Denny’s. So whether it is for America’s security or Democratic strategy, George Bush has to go. At this time, both security and strategy go hand in hand. The timing looks auspicious.

CHINESE DIPLOMACY AND THE ART OF THE REAL

What a day for news and an ironic day at that. As the neocon establishment heads for the hills, finally forced to look at the quagmire known as Iraq; China is busy making moves on the diplomatic front. Synchronicity or coincidence, I’m not sure, but as President Bush and Co. is getting rebuked by the military establishment and deserting neocons; China just finished hosting Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. Interestingly enough, the points China is scoring are exactly the ones the US is losing.

The war in Iraq has not only cost lives and tax dollars but the US has lost a lot of love in the Arabic and Muslim nations. According to the Harvard International Review

Those words were written in the winter of 2005 and trust me; the ongoing war in Iraq hasn’t done anything to help improve US relations with the Arab world. That really is too bad because, historically there was a great deal of strength to the Saudi-US relationship and its’ foundation with the historic meeting between FDR and King Abdulaziz. Unfortunately, America is now viewed as an occupier and biased colluder with Israel in attacking the Arab world while supporting the continued development of Israeli settlements on the West Bank. To put it more simply the US is viewed as a perpetual accomplice in the wholesale destruction of the Palestinian people. This is not a way to win friends and influence people in the Middle East. Let us see what China was doing today.

Later we see this.

“Mubarak introduced the situation of Middle East and Egypt's viewpoints on the issue.

Hu said China will always stand on the side of Arabian people, and advocates to settle the issue through political negotiations based on relevant UN resolutions.”

Wow, I thought to myself, did he really say the “always” word? I’m no Georgetown graduate but, that is pretty heavy diplospeak. Wow! Again; I didn’t even know you were allowed to do that. Isn’t AIPAC or some media outlet going to give them a spanking? I remembered when Israel approved the Dubai Ports deal doesn’t China have to go through some red tape? I’d never read anything like this in my life; which tells you; I really don’t get out much. Then I thought about it…China…strategy…Lao Tzu. What was China’s motive? Why were they capitulating to the Arab and Islamic world instead of blind allegiance to Israel? Three of the top five countries in the world with proven oil reserves were Arab/Muslim countries. The other two in the top five were Canada whose oil reserves require more expensive refining methods and Venezuela, who’s President Hugo Chavez, recently suffered sulfur burns inside his proboscis while referring to George Bush as the devil.

As far as long term oil supplies go it looks like the diplomatic score is China/Diplomacy 1, America/War 0.

In another synchronous example; we have the return of an American and a Brit who were kidnapped while mapping petroleum deposits of Nigeria’s coast. The fact that they were returned safe is good news. The fact that the kidnapping was one incident among a host of violent acts that has cut Nigeria’s oil production by roughly 25%, is not a good indicator for US strategy in the area. That is, of course, if you believe that it is no coincidence that both kidnapped men worked for Chevron. Thus stands the US relationship with Africa’s largest oil producer and one of the world’s top ten petroleum exporters. So let us once again take a look at China’s diplomatic, “Art of the Real”.

On this same day, during Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak’s visit, some of the Chinese strategy is revealed. In the same speech mentioning, “the just cause of the Arab people”, Chinese President Hu Jintao, says the following.

“On Sino-African relations, Hu said China and African countries are sincere friends and close brothers. The Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) is a milestone in China- Africa mutually beneficial cooperation and will have a special impact in the history of Sino-African relationship, he said.”

Did Hu Jintao just hi-five his African “brothers”. Damn! (By the way, for those of you unaware, yes, Egypt is in Africa; I know that causes no small amount of pain for certain intellects, but it is true). Well, you might say, that is a very general commitment and has no specific bearing on China and Nigerian oil. And you know what I would say, “You are right!” Then I would say, give me a moment for some brief research and I’ll tell you what China is doing with Nigeria. Then you might say, well, how do you know they are doing anything? Then I would say, “I know because, they are doing it all over the world.” Let’s have a look.

According to Reuters here is what is happening with China and Nigeria. To include everything that China is doing with Africa would require pages.

July 2005 - China and Nigeria sign an $800 million crude oil deal between Petrochina International and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corp. to supply 30,000 barrels of crude oil per day to China.

Jan 2006 - China's top offshore oil producer CNOOC agrees to pay $2.3 billion for a stake in an oil and gas field in Nigeria, Africa's biggest oil-producer. The deal is China's largest ever overseas acquisition.

November 2006 - At a summit in Beijing, 12 Chinese firms and African governments and companies sign deals worth $1.9 billion involving 11 African countries covering areas such as infrastructure, telecoms and technological equipment, mineral resource development and insurance.

That should be sufficient evidence. The incredible thing about the Chinese style is once you know it; you don’t have to know what they are doing, because you already know.

Today’s Oil Scoreboard wraps up with a final score of China 2 America 0. I hope this foreign policy thing doesn’t go the way of US Men’s Olympic Basketball. Perhaps, America should steal a glance at China’s legendary playbook, The Art of War.

How much information does one need? How many times does something have to be reiterated? How many people, in how many places, in what occupation; have to say the same thing in order to get the message across?

Now the Military Times is speaking through at least four of their newspapers which happen to be, The Marine Corps Times, The Air Force Times, The Army Times and The Navy Times. Can anyone guess what they are saying? They are asking, no…wait, they are telling President Bush that Rumseld must go. How many straws does it take to break in to a red stater’s noggin or a blue state politicians’, for that matter. Excluding, of course, the ones that objected to Bush’s election and the War in the first place. How many of those were there? Not to get sidetracked, it will be hard to ascribe this Military Times editorial to a bunch of left wing kooks that just can’t identify with Middle America. I really think you would be hard pressed to find any pro gun control, gay marriage supporting atheists, in their newsroom or drinking chi-chi’s by the copier, although; it is hard to resist a good chi-chi. No, no my friendly reader let me tell you what the Military Times is all about or better yet I shall show you.

Now, when The Military times is telling the President that “Donald Rumsfeld must go”, it could also be inferred that if Donald Rumsfeld doesn’t go that the President’s leadership is in question. It is also a statement that selecting Donald Rumsfeld to be the Secretary of Defense was a horrendous decision and responsible for the mess in Iraq. That’s a pretty hefty statement from “the leading military and government news periodical publisher in the world.” Then you can throw into the pot a host of neocon prototypes fleeing from the scene. According to Vanity Fair and The Guardian; Keith Adelman, Richard Perle, Michael Rubin, David Frum and a host of others are turning on President Bush. Oh my, oh my, timing is everything, is it not? The real irony is that some of these names are hugely responsible for the failed neocon strategy that has consumed world since the Bush Presidency began.

Adelman wrote that “liberating Iraq would be a cakewalk”. Then there is Richard Perle of Plamegate, Chalabi and Mujahedin-e-Khalq.

Life became Monday Night Football. Except, on MNF there is more strategy and logic than in world geopolitics. I don't know if you sense it but, everyone seems to think there is something brilliant about not thinking. Therefore, if you are the greatest non-thinker you should be the President. There is no need for deep thought. Iran is ready to wipe any opponent off the face of the map. North Korea is giving America the Middle Finger. We are spilling our own blood all over Iraq. Taiwan is about to invest all its money in China. Korea is giving America the Middle Finger. South America is giving the USA the Middle Finger. Basically, the US is sitting and spinning on a whole lot of Middle fingers.

I tried to help. I really did. I never meant to get involved. I was an artist, you know? So, I decided to draw some cartoons one day under the pseudonym of Al Weisman.

Why? Because, as a child I devoured MAD magazine, along with any other available reading material including shampoo bottles and mouthwash labels. I am a reading maniac. Anyhoo,I started drawing political cartoons because it is creative, it is funny and I can.

Before you know it someone finds me, sponsors me and the next thing you know; I am testing to be an FSO at the US Department of State. It was crazy shit!!! Honestly, I didn't even know who the Dept. of State was. I was living in the woods, remotely, peacefully, just looking for a steady living that wasn't the "corporate world". But I am no dummy, once I started studying what I was into, not because I wanted to be a spook, but because I was attracted to the longevity, income, mental utilization and patriotism of it, I started soaking things up.

(What I am trying to say is that until the Dept. of State popped into my life; I had never ever contemplated, much less written a political paper.) So when I wrote what I wrote, I think it caught some people by surprise. They couldn't understand but to me it was easy, still is. I think if I ever took the time to be amazed, it wouldn't be so easy anymore.

Anyway, to make a long story short, my two dogs are dead, my ex is my ex but my life goes on. Don’t ask me. I don’t know what happened to America. We used to be sex, drugs and rock n roll. Then somehow we lost our soul. Has the heartbeat of Woodstock been reduced to a Mountain Dew commercial or a Homeland Security Operation? Shit, or better yet, Geeezus Christ, didn’t we used to jam to Swingtown by the Steve Miller band? Weren’t people from around the world flocking to get here? I mean when is the last time we had to rescue some Cuban refugees? Is the land of Castro actually more exciting now then football, hamburgers and Baskin Robbins? Remember when all we had to worry about was the weather? Of course, freedom isn’t free. But what happens when it is not Freedom anymore? Should we change the National Anthem? Remember when there were good fights between the Democrats and Republicans but we all went out to watch Mike Tyson knock someone the f—k out? Somehow, when Iron Mike bit off that chunk of ear we all stopped listening to our Souls.

I mean who has got better music than the USA? No one, baby! I’ll put money on that. Who invented the car, television, phone, and light bulb? I mean without America the world would be some walkin’, no communication, in the dark mutha…shut your mouth! So, let’s can all this right wing, left wing, abortion, gay marriage bullshit. It is starting to look like divide and conquer. Our informed dissent has always made us stronger as a country. From Rage Against The Machine to Sinatra; that was the great thing, everybody in America did their own thing. I don’t know how we went from most loved to most despised overnight. Just listen to “Take the Money and Run” by Steve Miller. I think it is self explanatory.

The bottom line is once we stop havin’ fun and get stuck in some lock step, robotic, automaton-like existence, well, then we ain’t livin’ in the U.S.A. anymore. To tell you the truth, I don’t know who is responsible for f—kn things up so much. It seems like it would have to be a joint effort to do so much damage so fast. I knew the end was near when Janet Jackson’s titty almost shut down television broadcasting. I mean is that the future, we become so self-righteous that while we shed blood around the world we pray with a bullet in our hand. Did you know North Korea’s literacy rate is 99%. I don’t even want to know what it is in America. How important is staying the course when we can’t even spell it? Who knows, I am no magician, or genie. The Euro-Asian Alliance Part 2 G.U.T.R.U.S.H. Globally United Terror Response to United States Hedgemony

“The Euro-Asian Alliance: Shifts in the Global Balance of Power”, makes the case for a cooperative effort between France, Germany, Russia and China, “to create a rival power center capable of opposing the execution of detrimental foreign policy by the United States”.

The greatest threat of such a cooperative alliance is the possibility of its expansion throughout the globe and utilization of covert terror operations to achieve its objectives. This threat concept is called GUTRUSH or Globally United Terror Response to United States Hegemony. The likelihood of a GUTRUSH initiative is strong when consideration is given to the expanding political, economic and military relationships of the Euro-Asian Alliance members with countries that pose potential nuclear and/or terror threats to U.S. interests.

Only ignorance and hubris could allow anyone to believe that countries many years older than the U.S. would not resort to cooperative terror operations if world opinion, international law and U.N. resolutions did not protect their interests. In many parts of the world, the U.S. is viewed as a deaf bully, unwilling to hear or listen to any other countries opinion. This fact and the perception that the U.S. unfairly supports Israel through a biased and prejudiced foreign policy gives America’s enemies more than one thing in common, more than one motive in common and forces them to be creative in their responses to U.S. hegemony.

Concerning the EU, the CIA’s, 2003, Unclassified Report to Congress on the Acquisition of Technology Relating to Weapons of Mass Destruction, states the following. “Iran continued to successfully procure dual use goods and materials from Europe. In addition, several Western European countries remained willing to negotiate Advanced Conventional Weapons sales to Libya, India, Pakistan and other countries to preserve their domestic defense industries. North Korea approached Western European entities to obtain acquisitions for its uranium enrichment program.” This information makes it quite evident that Europe does not share the United States “axis of evil” philosophy.

EU members certainly consider their Islamic population and geographic proximity to Islamic countries. According to former career CIA agent, Robert Baer, in his book, “See No Evil”; “It didn’t take a sophisticated intelligence organization to figure out that Europe, our traditional ally in the war against bad guys, had become a hothouse of Islamic fundamentalism”. Spain and Turkey have already suffered significant terror attacks for their support of the US‘s war in Iraq. It is reasonable to believe other European countries have given these potentials careful consideration.

We have also seen the terrorists express their appreciation for a European policy of non-intervention in the US led war in Iraq. A blatant display of such appreciation occurred when terrorist released their hostages after learning that they were French. In the meantime, American hostages continue to be beheaded with rapidity. In these base physical actions the implied understanding between Europe and the terrorists is one of cooperation. The following facts also make a strong case for the likelihood of European involvement in Operation GUTRUSH. Much of the planning for the 9/11 attacks took place in Europe. If nothing else this indicates a level of comfort that violently anti-American terrorists feel in the European environment. No terrorist attacks have occurred in France or Germany since the beginning of Operation Iraqi Freedom. This indicates that the terrorists believe any possible statement they could make in these countries is not worth jeopardizing the current relationship, whatever that relationship may be. Shortly after the 9/11 attacks took place a French author published a number one bestseller that stated the Pentagon was hit by a missile and not an airplane. The implication is that America purposely struck its own Department of Defense for political purposes. That such an accusation reached bestseller status indicates that its theme was popular and/or was intended to be so. The challenges in US-French relations since 2001 are well documented.

We can imagine that the French are throwing temper tantrums like misbehaving children whose greatest threat is to our eardrums or we can believe that the French, who have survived two World Wars and heavy attacks by foreign troops on their own soil, have made contingency plans. If the latter is true, then GUTRUSH, a Globally United Terror Response to United States Hegemony, may be considered a viable option by the French and other EU members for protecting their interests. Once we understand how our former allies could feel pushed far enough into a corner to participate in a GUTRUSH it is that much easier to envision participation by Russia and China. The key to a effective GUTRUSH is that world powers like the EU, Russia and China, who have already voiced their displeasure, discontent, and desire to limit US hegemony, begin proactively enhancing the economic, political and military apparatus of second tier or perimeter nation states outside the Alliance.

In the CIA’s, 2003, Unclassified Report to Congress on the Acquisition of Weapons of Mass Destruction, the CIA expresses continuing concern about Chinese nuclear cooperation with Iran and Pakistan. China has offered significant assistance to Pakistan and Iran on ballistic missile related projects. Thanks to Chinese assistance Pakistan has moved toward domestic serial production of Short Range and Medium Range solid propellant ballistic missiles. Chinese entity ballistic missile related assistance helped Iran move toward it’s goal of becoming self-sufficient in the production of ballistic missiles. In addition, firms in China provided dual-use missile-related items, raw material, and/or assistance to several other countries of proliferation concern-such as Iran, Libya and North Korea. Chinese firms are still providing dual-use chemical weapons related equipment and technology to Iran, as well as, Advanced Conventional Weapons to Pakistan and Iran.

According to the Secretary of Defense’s, 2003, “Annual Report on the Military Power of The People’s Republic of China”, Beijing apparently believes that the US poses a significant long-term challenge. China’s leaders have asserted that the US seeks to maintain a dominant geostrategic position by containing the growth of Chinese power, ultimately “dividing” and “Westernizing” China, and preventing a resurgence of Russian power. Beijing has interpreted the strengthened US-Japan security alliance, increased US presence in the Asia-Pacific region-including Central Asia—and efforts to expand NATO as manifestations of Washington’s strategy. While seeking a stable relationship with Washington, Beijing will continue to seek opportunities to diminish US regional influence.

The PLA’s (People’s Liberation Army) strategy places a strong emphasis on surprise. Their writings indicate a number of methodologies that could enhance the success of surprise, including strategic and operational deception, electronic warfare, and wearing down or desensitizing and opponents’ political and military leadership. At least one objective would be to reduce indications and warning of military action. For there to be no indications via satellite or humint would require that the PLA does not move. Subsidizing covert terror attacks through jihaddi organization would allow for that while providing the ultimate surprise.

Most interesting in this Department of Defense report are the following sentences. “Beijing apparently believes that the US poses a significant long-term challenge. China’s leaders have asserted that the US seeks to maintain a dominant geostrategic position by containing the growth of Chinese power, ultimately “dividing” and “Westernizing” China, and preventing a resurgence of Russian power.” What’s interesting in this analysis, if accurate, is that it states clearly that China and Russia have the same geostrategic national security interests.

To prevent the resurgence of Russian power the US is determined to divide and Westernize China. That is another way of stating what the Chinese believe regarding US policy and strategy in the region. The word “divide” is a direct assault on what China considers the most essential condition for its national survival and development…”national unity”. That makes the US the number one security threat and concern of Chinese policymakers and intelligence heads. The US may want to ask itself the following question and carefully consider the answer. What are the implications of Chinese and Russian participation in a Globally United Terror Response to United States Hegemony (GUTRUSH) if China places its own sovereignty and stability second to “national unity” under a Marxist/Maoist government?

This brings us to the final and perhaps most important nation in the Euro-Asian Alliance’s push into a GUTRUSH, Russia. Many in US intelligence understand the formidability of the KGB far better than the author. With that in mind it is quite doubtful that KGB spy Vladimir Putin reflects fondly upon his Soviet Republic’s Cold War losses as he decides upon Russian foreign policy. As documented in “The Euro-Asian Alliance: Shifts in the Global Balance of Power”, the result of a 2003 meeting between Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing and Russian Foreign Minister Ivanov resulted in the following statements out of China’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

Regarding President Hu Jintao and President Putin,

“They emphasized that whatever changes the international situation may undergo, China and Russia will give priority to bilateral relations in their respective foreign policies and their policy of deepening and developing bilateral strategic coordination in various fields will remain intact, and that the mechanism of high level contacts and the cooperation between the two countries will continue to be intensified.”

Foreign Ministry Comrades Ivanov and Jintao agree on many things including “the Iraqi issue, North Korea nuclear issue and other international issues.”

Whatever Vladimir Putin is thinking in regards to the Old Cold War, the United States and the future of Russia, China is on board. Not only is China on board diplomatically and politically but there is a few billion dollars in Chinese currency getting on board every year for Russian military training and hardware.

As we continue delving into the concept of GUTRUSH and analyzing the thoughts, feelings, actions and statements of the Euro-Asian Alliance it becomes apparent that the concept may already have moved into reality. The most likely brain center for GUTRUSH would be in Russia. China’s foreign policy appears to be one of deception, especially the appearance of amicability for purposes of economic gain. The EU is an ally of the US through NATO and other institutions, thus making it to risky a location to support the GUTRUSH brain center. Russia, on the other hand, has had a head start since it has been going head to head with the US for decades. One Soviet defector, Anatoly Golitsyn, said that the dissolution of the USSR was actually a KGB operation. Thus far 139 or 94% of his 148 predictions have been verifed. It would be interesting to know exactly what he meant.

According to the CIA’s Unclassified Report to Congress on the Acquisition of Technology Relating to Weapons of Mass Destruction, Russia is an active player. Russia has assisted Iran in building the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant. In relation to ballistic missile related goods and technical know how Russia has supplied Iran, India and China. Russian entities remain a key source of equipment, chemicals and expertise for countries of concern with active Chemical and Biological Weapons programs. Russia continues to be a major supplier of conventional arms. As of November 2000 Russian officials stated that they saw Iran as potentially being Russia’s third largest conventional weapons customer behind China and India. Other customers are Libya and Sudan.

A pattern has definitely developed. The Euro-Asian Alliance of the EU, Russia and China has been established. The relationships between all of the Alliance members are far superior to any alliance member’s relations with the US. The Alliance members have all experienced financial losses as a result of US unilateral action in Iraq. The Alliance members are all supporting Iran and North Korea both of which happen to be the two remaining countries in the US’s “axis of evil”. This support includes the procurement and development of Weapons of Mass Destruction. In essence, the Euro-Asian Alliance members are doing everything in their power to support countries that the US has identified as a proliferation and/or terrorist threat. The only thing the Alliance hasn’t done is make the following announcement.

“We the Euro-Asian Alliance will begin actively and directly supporting terrorist operations against the United States of America. We will begin by providing covert financing and operational strategy to terrorist attacks on the U.S. in Iraq and Afghanistan. We will then begin covertly attacking US assets throughout the Middle East and Eurasian continent. These attacks will certainly occur on Alliance members’ soil primarily impacting US interests while causing minimal collateral damage to Alliance members. This collateral damage will be small enough so as not to impact Alliance infrastructure, yet large enough to exacerbate anti-US sentiment. Initially these attacks will be carried out only through jihaddis whom the alliance will support through a multi-layered splinter cell structure. The actual executors of the attacks will have no inkling of Alliance support. Then on a selective basis attacks on US interests will be carried out by elite members of Alliance intelligence organizations within the framework and footprint of a typical jihaddi operation. As the US begins to find itself reeling to and fro from vast number of attacks on its international interests the Alliance will begin initiating Operation Nightmare Scenario (ONS) on US soil.”

The Euro-Asian Alliance may not have spoken these words and perhaps they have not even considered the thought. Nevertheless, the potential for a GUTRUSH cannot be ignored. This is especially so considering that a GUTRUSH may appear to be the most effective method for the Euro-Asian Alliance to achieve its goals while maintaining plausible deniability. These goals would be to see the United States consumed by conflict in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere. Such consumption would allow Alliance members to pursue their goals with less opposition from the US. The ultimate goals of the Euro-Asian Alliance are a unified, militarily modernized EU capable of opposing unilateral US policy, a resurgent Russia, a united China, and strong nuclear powered neighbors in Iran, North Korea, India and Pakistan. These are just a few of the Alliance’s possible interests. A covert GUTRUSH could mutate into a push to get the US out of the Eurasian continent. This could further mutate into attacks on US interests in Canada, North and South America as the GUTRUSH expands. Ultimately, in Operation Nightmare Scenario (ONS), the EAA GUTRUSH will begin using the powers of space, the Galileo Satellite Network and the internet, as well as diplomatic pouches and NATO intelligence to achieve its goals.

Iraq’s Oil Ministry had planned last year to develop 350 wells across the country under contracts with several Russian and French oil firms. Major emphasis was to be on the huge southern oil fields, as part of an ambitious plan to increase production to 6 million barrels per day.
French analysts fear that contracts between French oil firms and Saddam’s regime are moot, recalling former CIA Director James Woolsey’s warning that only if the French and Russians cooperated with the United States would US companies be inclined to cooperate with counterparts in these countries.
Russia, with $7 billion to $8 billion of aging Soviet era loans owed to it by Iraq, would have benefited significantly form exploration and production deals between Russian oil companies and Iraq as part of a larger economic agreement.
Just last year France successfully negotiated an agreement to develop the Majnoun field believed to contain 30 billion barrels of oil. This agreement is in jeopardy, as is France’s favored commercial position with Iraq for the past 30 years in which Jacques Chirac, now its president, was a prime player.

According to a report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), Russia exported $4.97 billion worth of arms in 2001, with the US delivering $4.56 billion worth.
China is one big client that is completely dependent on Russia for its arms imports, the SIPRI report said.
It is hard to get the precise figure, but it is possible to estimate that in 2001, from the entire official Russian weapons exports of about $4.5 billion, at least $2 billion went to China.

It should be emphasized that official Russian weapons exports to China do not include.

It is very probable that in the environment of upgraded Chinese-Russian military technological cooperation, in 2003-2004 China will become capable of manufacturing all this weaponry in arbitrary quantities, with characteristics not inferior to international levels and with minimal or zero use of imported components. Chinese economic technological potential is on a steep rise and “digestion” of even the most sophisticated Russian military and dual-use technology is not difficult for this country any more.

Despite being the world’s largest democracy, India has always neglected Taiwan, the first Chinese society to reject authoritarianism, in favor of Democracy. And yet, New Delhi continues to be extremely sensitive about what it might do or say that might offend Bejing. Having surrendered its Tibetan interests to China, India seems determined to do the same vis-à-vis Taiwan. Economic relations between the two are in sorry shape. Bilateral trade in 2002 was US$1.1123 billion. Taiwanese investment in India stands at US$114.6 million and Indian investment in Taiwan at US$4.7 million. President Chen Shui-bian has been forced to loosen the restriction of the US$50 million on individual Taiwanese investments in China, and to lift the ban on the country’s high-tech manufacturers from building semi-conductor plants on the mainland. Chen has also allowed mainland capital to enter Taiwan’s troubled property and stock markets.

However, in the process, more than 300,000 Taiwanese doing business in communist China have become Beijing’s potential hostages. There is now the clear possibility that China could absorb Taiwan economically.

Summary Opinion

Jacques Chirac’s overt extension of diplomatic relation to China and Russia comes with a full recognition of a strong Sino-Russo relationship that contrasts greatly with former Cold War NATO treatment of both countries. Additionally, President Chirac has recognized the economic potential of trade with China and Europe’s dependence of Russian natural resources as essential linchpins in future European prosperity. Nor has the military might of the Euro-Asian Alliance and its unified foreign policy objectives been overlooked. Rather than play the role of nephew to an American Uncle Sam; Jacques Chirac chooses to be father to a Eurasian continent. Just French President Valery Giscard d’Estaing had the vision to the G8 in 1975; French President Jacques Chirac is now inviting China to the G8. He is also working with Russia on W.T.O concerns and creating a visa-free regime by 2007. In Chirac’s eyes, his former NATO ally, the U.S., is now the burglar of French treasures.

President Jacques Chirac’s French led opposition to the U.S. war with Iraq was an opening move designed to place Europe in a place of leadership in what he perceives to be the developing power of Russia and China. EU support offers Russia and China; both of which are long maligned, validity on the globe stage. France’s willingness to put aside any xenophobic tendencies in aligning the Eurasian powers is only one indicator of the Euro-Asian Alliances formidable potential and it is a small one at that. Of greater consideration is the economic and diplomatic loss France may be forced to endure as a result of its antagonistic position toward the U.S. It must be assumed that the French made forward calculations and they considered the risk well worth the return. In essence, for France to risk $1.% billion in annual trade, with Iraq, 25% of Iraq’s oil reserves and 798 contracts for parts and equipment by blatantly opposing U.S. policy, Jacques Chirac and the majority of the EU must envision a lucrative end game that result in a checkmate of the United States of America. With this in mind the U.S. must proceed with extreme caution regarding future international activities.

A defensive estimate should be made concerning all potential military conflicts involving the U.S. and members of the Euro-Asian Alliance. These estimates should include both direst and indirect opportunities for conflict. All traditional U.S. allies, such as Canada, Mexico, Israel, and Japan should be scrutinized in regards to increase diplomatic activities with members of the Euro-Asian Alliance. Full-scale overt military action with a fully developed Euro-Asian Alliance would result in global catastrophe. The potential of failed covert military action on strengthening the Euro-Asian Alliance beyond its organic potential should be carefully considered before such strategy is applied. Therefore, the following strategy is of a diplomatic nature and focuses on maintaining America’s position as the number one superpower in the world, exponentially increasing America’s economic strength and extending America’s political influence throughout the globe.

In order to achieve these three goals, America should consider maximizing its diplomatic relationships with China. Considerations in attempting such diplomacy would include offering permanent most favored nation status, permanent peace treaties, full recognition of China in all arenas and possible concessions on Taiwan. If Chinese absorption by mainland China is likely, then the U.S. should be its pro-active coordinator. This is especially so if Taiwanese business interests believe that the economic potentials outweigh the political downside. It could be perceived as an American exportation of capitalism and democracy to China via Taiwan. Certainly, such a move, properly promoted, would create agitation among the mainland Chinese population. China needless to say, would initially find such a reunification extremely satisfactory. It is a case of “be careful what you ask for, you just might get it.” Taiwan is the trump card for entrée that only the U.S. holds. At some point, its value will severely diminish. In exchange for these incredibly diplomatic activities China should make the U.S. its number one trading partner. Development of Taiwan and Taiwanese business interests should certainly play a pivotal role in this concession. A permanent peace treaty could provide the case for maintenance of a U.S. military presence in Taiwan. With a permanent peace treaty and trade agreement in place, China would gladly accept the U.S. deliveries of superior goods and technology, including military exports which Russia is currently benefiting from to the tune of roughly $4 billion a year. The U.S. could then continue to focus on developing a high tech, high productivity society while relying on China for other goods.

What would be the effects of the aforementioned strategy? The Euro-Asian Alliance would cease to exist. The U.S. economy and business interests would prosper due to demand by an insatiable China. Increased international investments would be drawn to the U.S. America’s flexibility, diplomacy, and acuity would be reinforced worldwide. The executors of this policy would be recognized as impacting the globe on a historical scale to which the falling of the Berlin Wall and the SALT treaties would pale in comparisons. Joint U.S.-China policy decisions would be hard to ignore. America would be in a greater position to capitalize and direct China’s future. The Russian economy would probably falter due to lost trade and revenues. Europe’s influence, except for Great Britain, would be severely diminished. Newly entered Eastern Bloc countries would be rewarded for adhering to U.S. policy. North Korea would be forced to fall in line. The United States would gain a major protective ally on its Western coast.

The implementation of this New Diplomacy with China requires agreement on one concept. That concept is that’ China’s growth, development, and movement towards democracy and capitalism is inevitable and that such development will be unparalleled in the annals of history. The only question is who will be the beneficiaries. It should be the United States and merci to Jacques Chirac for opening the door.

“I think the people I talk to next week are going to be shocked when I tell them what I have to tell them. It’s pretty hard to believe,” Tice said. “I hope that they’ll clean up the abuses and have some oversight into these programs, which doesn’t exist right now.” According to Mr. Tice, what has been disclosed so far is only the tip of the iceberg.

What in the world could Russ Tice be talking about?! To figure it out let us take a look at Russ Tice’s work at the NSA.

According to the Washington Times and numerous other sources, Mr. Tice worked on special access programs related to electronic intelligence gathering while working for the NSA and DIA, where he took part in space systems communications, non-communications signals, electronic warfare, satellite control, telemetry, sensors, and special capability systems.

Special Access Programs or SAPs refer to Black Budgets or Black Operations, Black means that they are covert and hidden from everyone except the participants. Feasibly there would be no arena with a greater potential for abuse and misuse than Special Access Programs. Even now Congress and the Justice Department are being denied the ability to investigate these programs because they don’t have “clearance”.

To put it in CNN’s Jack Cafferty’s words a top secret government agency, the NSA, the largest of its kind in the world, is denying oversight or investigation by the American people because investigators lack clearance. To add a layer of irony to the Black Ops cake this travesty is occurring in America, the supposed bastion of Freedom and Democracy, which we are currently trying to export to Iraq.

It just gets scarier. The Black Ops that Mr. Tice was involved in related to electronic intelligence gathering via space systems communications, non-communications signals, electronic warfare, satellite control, telemetry, sensors, and special capability systems. NSA Conducting Electronic Warfare on US Citizens?

According to Congress Daily, True American Patriot Russell Tice (see True American Patriot , April 5, 2006) will be speaking to the Senate Armed Services Committee next week. Apparently, Mr. Tice will be discussing some of the illegal activities General Hayden, nominee for the head of the CIA, was involved in while heading the NSA. According to the Washington Times and numerous other sources, Mr. Tice worked on special access programs related to electronic intelligence gathering while working for the NSA and DIA, where he took part in space systems communications, non-communications signals, electronic warfare, satellite control, telemetry, sensors, and special capability systems.

Well, Holy Canoli and Jesus Christ on a Crutch, Electronic Warfare?! What the heck is that? Well let us take a look at the science.

NSA Signals Intelligence Use of EMF Brain Stimulation

NSA Signals Intelligence uses EMF Brain Stimulation for Remote Neural Monitoring (RNM) and Electronic Brain Link (EBL). EMF Brain Stimulation has been in development since the MKUltra program of the early 1950's, which included neurological research into "radiation" (non-ionizing EMF) and bioelectric research and development. General Hayden, will get scorched by flamethrower-like questions in his nomination hearings. This will happen because the CIA, State, and Congress realize that this is their last opportunity to preserve any modicum of power or respect in the Pentagon’s ever expanding power grab since 9/11. Disgruntled DOD employees and Republican’s up for re-election will also contribute to this forthcoming spit-roasting.

The policies and antics of the Bush administration may have brought together one of the most formidable, intelligent, diverse and powerful underground coalitions in politics. Based on the “enemy of my enemy is my friend” philosophy, a lot of new friendships have been made.

Those previous two paragraphs were written last night, May 10, 2006. The NSA can verify that if they have been monitoring the network. Rather than publish them at the time, OSIIS decided to wait. The patience has born fruit.

In the same blog, OSIIS followers should take note of the other forecasts. President Bush will be removed from office. The purging of corrupt officials will be deep. This is as it should be, especially, if one considers the fact that such a significant number of administration officials are linked to the old Iran/Contra scandal. It is more then ironic that members of the same administration ready to declare war on Iran were eagerly engaged in selling them illegal arms two decades ago. This time will be a little different. Suffice it to say the guilty will not be practicing politics in the future nor will they be Fox News Correspondents.

BREAKING NEWS: JOHN MURTHA PREDICTS PUBLIC OPINION WILL FORCE THE US TO PULL OUT OF IRAQ BY 2007. As you will notice in the blog titled, Rough Day for Rummy as the Pentagon Don Drinks Rum Punch, 5/4/06, Murtha’s name is mentioned first after the question, “Who is going to step up next?”. The OSIIS crystal ball is really shining these days. Now, back to the domestic spying issue.

Neither Tony Snow nor Josh Bolten can help the President get ahead of this one. Many of the Republicans running up to defend the President are running right into a trap. OSIIS believes that the current whistleblowing is well timed and well coordinated. Future revelations in the NSA spying case will lop the head off of anyone that’s already committed to defending the domestic spying program. OSIIS believes that the revolt goes deep into the heart of the NSA. Specifics are reserved for OSIIS clientele. At some point all OSIIS analysis will be reserved for clientele. This is another forecast that will come true.
The bottom line is that there is alot more then domestic spying going on. Much of it is labeled “training”, “experimental” or “Special Access Programs”. Certain members within the intelligence community are deeply vested in the appropriations of these programs. These members understand the devastating repercussions to themselves if these programs are ever scrutinized. Certain other members are disgusted by these programs. The reality of the situation is that there is no finger big enough to plug the whole in this dam. Its not a hole in a dam. It’s a damn big hole.

Issues to ponder: Since the NSA is part of the DOD what responsibility does Don Rumsfeld have in this domestic spying.

If the NSA domestic spying program was authorized pre-9/11 then that means the program was a failure. An unchallenged, unauthorized, unexamined failure and an expensive one to taxpayers wallets, pocketbooks and civil rights.

These are just a couple of challenging questions to come.

Ray McGovern delivered a first round knockout to dandy don rumsfeld at a recent speech. Don got softened up by three protesters, 2 women and 1 man before Ray Ray got to him. Then Ray Ray did what no one does these days. He spoke truth to power. When he did; the power folded like origami. It is rather hard to battle the truth.

Ray did his research and called Rumsfeld on his quotes about WMD and Zarqawi in Iraq. There was alot of stuttering and alot of confusion for the SecDef. Mostly, there is alot of tape on CNN of the Don directly contradicting himself and there should be. The unfortunate thing is that CNN and other media outlets have had these and many other contradictions under their nose and on tape for years. Former CIA agents and Generals are doing the presses job. Thank God, somebody is.

The United States Department of State, affectionately known as State, has been long held by some as the crème de la crème of intellectual thought and Jeffersonian democracy. It is viewed by others as the last entrenched repository of Washington’s left wing radicals. The fact of the matter is State has been neither of those as of late. The transition at State has been a deep and troubling one. It has been most disturbing to long-term employees who like to think or give subject matter careful consideration. So much of the current scandal and controversy in American politics are only a few degrees of separation from the goings on at State. Joe Wilson, uranium in Niger, CIA leak, the War in Iraq; these and so many others involve the sweeping revolution and battle with which the State Department is currently engaged.

According to this Knight Ridder article, the Department of State has been undergoing a political cleansing. This cleansing has resulted in the replacing of career experts by Pentagon and White House political operatives. Apparently, loyalty to George Bush and Condoleeza Rice has replaced expertise and intelligence on the subject matter at hand.

The end of the article notes the following achievements by State after the Bush administration coup de tat.

The Bush administration's arms control policies began with a refusal to submit a global treaty to ban underground nuclear-test blasts indefinitely for Senate ratification.
The administration withdrew the United States from the 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty and blocked international efforts to conclude a pact on verifying compliance with a global biological-weapons ban.
The administration also rejected a mechanism for verifying that the United States and Russia are adhering to a 2002 accord to cut deployed nuclear warheads, has embraced new uses for nuclear arms and is spending billions modernizing and improving the U.S. arsenal.

It certainly doesn’t inspire the warm fuzzies. Why is America blocking an international pact that verifies compliance with a global biological-weapons ban? You would think that such verifications would provide valuable information; especially since we went into Iraq because of such WMD. Not to mention the face masks our soldiers had to wear in the desert.

Furthermore, this culling of common sense is being executed by the same gentlemen; Frederick Fleitz and Robert Joseph, involved in the Valerie Plame leak and other sordid State Department fiascos such as the “uranium in Niger”.

A dozen State Department officials drafted a dissent letter to W. Robert Pearson, Director of Human Resources and Director General of the Foreign Service about this unprecedented shake-up. If the dissenters had done their background they would have known not to waste their time.

The feeding frenzy will begin shortly. The Bush White House is not far away from a precipitous fall. Previously immune to any attack of the facts and content with “trust me I’m the president” declarations; the Bush administration is finding itself besieged from all sides. To put it in laymen’s turns, “You can only do so much dirt before you have to take a bath.”

The chair shuffling of Karl Rove was predicted (see “Texas Hold'em: Andy Card is Dealt, Is Rove on the River?”) and as predicted it was window dressing. What is more important is that White House knows it is in trouble. The staff shuffling in itself is a potent indicator of such knowledge. Remember, we are dealing with a President that told us he had the right to spy on Americans and interpret the Bill of Rights as he sees fit. This is the same President that threw the country into war and stuffed the Patriot Act down America’s throat. For what seemed like too incredibly long of a time this President was the Teflon Don, a Supreme Potentate that handed his decisions down to the bewildered citizenship. Well, you can take that whole visual and flip it on its head because, politically speaking, the current administration has created so many enemies they will be lucky to escape resignation and/or impeachment before the end of President Bush’s final term. It may get so bad that, in hindsight, Russ Feingold’s motion to censure could turn out to be the gift horse that was looked in the mouth. Because, the fact of the matter is there is no shuffling, dodging or hiding from Iraq.

Our American men and women in uniform are falling, bleeding and dying every week. They are coming home in body bags, pieces or to the VA for rehab and prosthetics. This is a reality that the Bush administration can’t hide from. More importantly, the soldiers, the Generals couldn’t hide from this reality anymore. It is their boys and girls, their men and women they are sending into harms way and it was no longer acceptable. The Generals speaking out was the proverbial straw that broke the camels back. Perhaps, they began to wonder, like many civilians, how America was going to export Democracy by torturing Iraqi’s. Whatever they thought, their voices were heard and now, as the White House plays musical chairs, the war in Iraq goes on. Even if Rumsfeld does resign the war in Iraq goes on. It goes on with out a plan. It goes on without a mission. It goes on with a sage like “uh-duh….we got to get a government in there”. That is quite the far cry from Mission Accomplished. Meanwhile, sons and daughters of Democrats and Republicans continue to die everyday. For those neocon hand puppets who denounce any challenging discussion of the war by saying its unpatriotic and hurts our troops; I dare you to go tell any member of the 82nd Airborne that they are unpatriotic and hurting their brothers and sisters in uniform. I bet you end up on your keister. Such accusations might be better directed toward the multi-billion dollar oil profiteers and half billion dollar CEO’s.

The Bush White House has run over too many people and made too many enemies. The shortlist is a long list. It ranges from unemployed victims of outsourcing to intelligence agents compromised by name dropping, from public servants who believe in free speech to federal agents who don’t want privacy breeched, FISA judge resignations, corporate accounting orchestrations, judicially elected President’s, homeless Katrina residents, manipulated voter scrolls, voting machines by Diebold. The list of egregious, possibly illegal, acts by this administration is endless and surely the most extensive of any presidency. One really wonders how President Clinton’s “sexual relations” got such incredible media attention at the time.
All things considered, OSIIS is predicting that the current administration will be brought down in scandal and the purging will be deep. So, investigative journalists get your pens ready because careers are about to be made. Republicans are best advised to put as much distance between themselves and the administration as possible. Wavering Democrats be careful not to lose a limb during the forthcoming carnivorous carnival. This one is going to be ugly. I know it. A little bird told me so.

Lastly, keep your eye on the NSA “spying on Americans” issue. When that whole package gets unwrapped…how best to put it? You have heard the expression who watches the Watcher. Well, what about who listens to the Listener and what happens when they have tapes?

Hu Jintao’s historic visit to the United States had many interesting aspects to it. To begin with he visited Bill Gates before President Bush. Thus arranging his itinerary was a very clear statement. There are a lot of ways to put it but, bluntly stated, Jintao’s message was, “Mr. Bush, I respect the power you wield, but I do not respect you.”

The Chinese are Masters of saying all while saying nothing. The head of the world’s largest country in the world, the President of the world’s fastest growing economy, Hu Jintao, steps into America, the most powerful nation in the world and has Apples in Seattle before he drops in on the President of the United States.

How long, how much time was required just between logistics and security, not to mention dinner menus, to coordinate this visit. More importantly, this incredible amount of time and attention revolved around Mr. Gates. Thus we have another message from China via Mr. Hu Jintao. The message is, we respect and like Mr. Gates. We place a high value on him because of his business excellence, excellent product and his willingness to help us utilize it. We are showing our appreciation by giving Mr. Gates Company $1 Billion. We are showing our appreciation by cracking down on illegal copies of Mr. Gates products. (This action is worth more than $1 Billion).

It sounds like Bill and Hu had a wonderful time. They even dropped in on a children’s Kung Fu Club to watch practice. Hu’s facial expressions and body language while visiting with Mr. Gates seemed positive and upbeat for the most part. The only grimace I noticed was when Mr. Hu was receiving those who had come to greet him. The shot was taken so that Mr. Jintao’s face was visible. It captured the rear view of an old, short, gray haired man, in need of a haircut, approaching Mr. Jintao to shake his hand. The old man held Hu’s hand for way to long and you could see the Grimace on Mr. Jintao’s face as he realized what and/or who he was dealing with. It was like Hu joyously chomped into a delicious Washington apple and hit a nasty little worm.

OSIIS did not research much of the Boeing visit. Suffice it to say it’s a huge business deal for Boeing involving 20-30 planes and billions of dollars. Apparently, Hu put on the Boeing hat. It must be love. Surely, Mr. Jintao and China are interested in Boeing Integrated Defense Systems.

Saving the worst for last Mr. Jintao met with Mr. Bush in D.C. At least he didn’t have to go to Crawford where the pistols, boots, Stetson and chainsaw could be laying around. Not to mention, he would risk getting pepper shots from Dick. By the way, Guinea Fowl, which was the First Course in Bill and Hu’s Seattle meal, is raised side by side with Quail in Central Texas. Mr. Jintao was definitely more tense and restrained around President Bush. He was focused on staying on message. His message was that

“China and the United States share extensive, common strategic interests and there is a broad prospect for the mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries. A good China-U.S. relationship is of strategic significance to the maintenance and promotion of peace, stability and development in the Asia-Pacific region and in the world at large.

We both agreed to view and address the bilateral relationship from a strategic and long-term perspective, and we both agreed to comprehensively move forward the constructive and cooperative China-U.S. relationship in the 21st century, to the benefits of the Chinese and American people, and people around the world.”

Those words were drier, more neutral and factual then similar statements China has made about their Russian relationship. Those statements regarding Russia are more emotional and momentum building. For example is this 2003 Statement from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding Chinese-Russian relations.

“China-Russia friendly relations and cooperation of good neighborliness and mutual benefit have not only been completely inherited, but also gathered momentum. President Hu Jintao and President Putin attach great importance to the development of bilateral relations.”

Mr. Hu almost let the cat out of the bag when he was asked; when would China become a democracy with free elections?

HU: I don't know — what do you mean by a democracy? What I can tell you is that we've always believed in China that if there is no democracy, there will be no modernization, which means that ever since China's reform and opening up in the late 1970s, China, on the one hand, has vigorously promoted economic reform, and on the other, China has also been actively, properly and appropriately moving forward the political restructuring process, and we have always been expanding the democracy and freedoms for the Chinese citizens.

In the future, we will, in the light of China's own national conditions and the will of the Chinese people, continue to move ahead the political restructuring and to develop a socialist democracy, and we will further expand the orderly participation of the Chinese citizens in political affairs so that the Chinese citizens will be in a better position to exercise their democratic rights in terms of democratic supervision, democratic management and democratic decision-making.

When Hu said, “I don’t know --- what do you mean by democracy?” It was as if he was at first infuriated, then realized he was talking to a child and then remembered it was a very dangerous child. In Mr. Jintao’s mind an America so imperialist, so violent and so reviled around the world is no gold standard for democracy. The way Mr. Jintao put it was that democracy is central to his countries modernization and the government has always been expanding the democracy and freedoms for the Chinese citizens. They have even named this democracy. It’s called a Social Democracy. A prime example of a Social Democracy would be Sweden. Hoodathunkit? Looks like our media and Chinese experts need to update their thoughts on China’s political designs. Maybe, after seeing a baby democracy get aborted in Russia and a glorified Democracy go Frankenstein in America, the Chinese decided to give democracy more careful consideration.

Mene, Mene, Tekel, Tekel, the writing is on the wall. The kingdom is at hand. Call it cause and effect, the principle of rhythm or just plain common sense. The truth has become obvious; America’s sense of self has descended into the greatest threat to Empire. That is a deluded sense of self. We are speaking about a sense of delusion so grandiose that it has become taboo to even speak about mistakes and/ or much needed corrections.

Recently W has been witnessed speaking the “M” word, i.e mistake. While certainly an admission; both he and the Honorable Condoleeza Rice have refused, thus far, to reveal what the foreign policy mistakes have been. While it is all too easy to focus on Katrina, NSA spying, Jack Abramoff, Scooter, Larry Franklin, Russian moles, 911 and etc., etc., etc. Let us get to the cut and dried aspects of America’s current reality.

People are scared to speak, talk, discuss, or evaluate the prospects and/or aspects of America’s place in the world. This is especially so, if these thoughts are divergent from the boss mans perspective. What we are talking about is the most basic precept of America and what makes it unique, the Freedom of Speech. Once again, we have to rely upon those who have been willing to pay the ultimate price. I am talking about the soldiers and officers of America’s Armed Services.

Soldiers are trained to follow orders and protect the Constitution of the United States. The Chain of Command is damn near inviolable. Therefore, for an officer of high rank to publicly oppose the decision making process of the Sec Def and the CINC, they must feel that the soul of America and its’ Constitution are facing a serious threat. When these soldiers and Generals begin speaking out, we need to be very concerned. This is because the Generals have seen and experienced it all, including; the politics, the big picture and the body bags.

Furthermore, when a General of the 82nd Airborne speaks out; you best believe I am all ears. This is especially so, when this particular General led the elite 82nd Airborne Division during its mission in Iraq. We are no longer talking about radical, elitist, left- wing, liberal, politicians spewing rhetoric. What we are talking about now is boots on the ground soldiers that have been sniffing blood and sand. The soldiers in the 82nd don’t have time to whine or bitch or cry. They are all about Mission Accomplished and if they are speaking out or protesting, you best believe there is something interfering with their mission.

Maj. Gen. Charles Swannack, Maj. Gen. John Batiste, Centcom Chief Anthony Zinni, Army Maj. Gen. Paul Eaton, Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Gregory Newbold, you are all heroes and your dedication to the United States of America is deeply appreciated and respected by this civilian. All of you have taken a risk and put your legacies on the line because of your love for America. Whether it all goes FUBAR or repairs itself you will be known as the ones who uttered the call for change for yourselves, for America and for your soldiers. Over the past 90 days; I have had the fortune to speak with active American soldiers currently stationed in Iraq. Two of these soldiers are Sergeants in the US Army who said that I could use their names but I have decided against doing so. These soldiers love America and are dedicated to their country and the Constitution. The following are some of their thoughts, feelings and observations on America’s current occupation of Iraq.

There is a loss of a sense of mission versus the early stages of the war.

There are Battalions doing nothing but collecting a paycheck.

There are officers driving around in lots of new hummers. Not the armored kind but the H2.

Many Generals and other Top Brass just fly in to spend a day or so in Iraq.

They believe that the US will definitely be going into N. Korea and Iran.

They believe it is overly-optimistic to think we are going to change a country whose culture is thousands of years old.

They believe that we should get out of Iraq.

They believe we will have to be in Iraq for at least 10 years to make any lasting changes.

One of the soldiers said, “We can’t even keep Mexicans from coming into the US illegally. How are we going to keep insurgents from coming into Iran from Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Iran.”

They say the insurgents are smart. They understand the restrictions of the Geneva Convention applied to the US military. Because of this they are taking shots at our men and women in uniform everyday while our soldiers are forced to sit on their hands.

They have witnessed massive amounts of private sector involvement in Iraq.

All in all; it is not a pretty picture. Come to your own conclusions from the aforementioned statements but it looks to me like the ugliest scenarios are yet to come.

True American Patriots

In these days, of the U.S.’s deteriorating democracy, it has become politically expedient to wrap one’s self in the flag. Unfortunately, for America, this flag wrapping exercise is all too often camouflage for the greedy insiders. These greedy insiders believe in the Constitution, Democracy, Bill of Rights and Patriotism to the degree that it allows them to grow their bank accounts and hide their past. When it comes down to a choice between their wallets or America, their wallets always win.

On the other side of the spectrum, you have the true patriots. History will regard these people as heroes. They have put their lives and careers on the line. They have put the health, well-being and security of their country above all else. They are subject to scrutiny, surveillance, harassment and derision in addition to financial challenges.

It would be hard to find an arena more challenging then the Intelligence community for true Patriots to take a stand. Employees in the Intelligence community know all to well the risks entailed in standing up for the truth, i.e. blowing the whistle. Isolation, intimidation and psychological abuse are all par for the course. These patriots become pariahs and have to defend themselves against organizations with unlimited resources at their disposal. Having been “chopped up” my self; I know how excruciating the process can be. That being said I would like to salute the following heroes.

Jill Carroll made it through a hurricane storm and lived to tell about it. Let’s congratulate that sharp American girl for her wits and courage not disparage her for being alive. All things considered; it’s nonsensical to pick on Jill Carroll for her words, not to mention the fact that, we are a free country where vigorous inspirational debate is encouraged. We don’t want to be like a bunch of Saddam Hussein’s with our heads in the clouds sucking up the words of Yes-men, while we lose the war. Democracy, Freedom and Civil Rights are the reason the U.S. is in Iraq. Right? So let us take care of Jill Carroll and welcome her home. That is the Christian thing to do and since she works at the Christian Science Monitor it might be appropriate.

Perhaps there is important information to be attained (read debriefing) but something tells me Jill Carroll is not the Manchurian candidate. Is an exit from the White House the final tactic of master strategist Karl Rove?

Karl Rove is the only hi-profile White House insider whose resignation would garner attention equal to or surpassing that of Dick Cheney or Donald Rumsfeld. Rove’s resignation would boost Bush’s poll numbers, satiate hungry Democrats and preserve the President’s legacy by holding onto his VP and SecDef.

The New York Daily News and Washington Post report Rove and Card as significant participants in the (WHIG’s) White House Iraq Groups marketing of the Iraq War. Think “mushroom clouds.” Reportedly, Rove received some stern criticism from Bush on this marketing and was fighting for his life. Being that the war is the biggest thorn in Bush’s side; a Rove resignation could boost Bush immediately. Wunderkind that he may be, Rove doesn’t have the old time Washington insider status like Cheney or Rumsfeld.

Rove doesn’t get hurt in the resignation. He is gracefully moving aside to allow the new chief of staff impediment free latitude. Additionally, Rove doesn’t need any titles to do what he does best. Being out of sight may actually be a boon for him. Most importantly, if the Bush administration was given a heads up that the Valerie Plame investigation would soon be knocking on Rove’s door then he would have to go anyway. A resignation of the Deputy Chief of Staff following that of the Chief of Staff may be the most palatable and graceful exit available in such circumstances.

Mr. Rove is a genius. Is it possible that after handing in his resignation Karl Rove could watch the President extract himself from a heavy chunk of the Iraq mess and the entire Plame affair? What would Mr. Rove say in such a situation? Probably, “We did it again. By George, we did it again.”

Hayden wanted the American public to know that the NSA was abiding the rules.
"Could there be abuses? Of course, there could, but I am here looking you and the American people in the eye and saying there are not," Hayden told CNN. "After Church and Pike, on this question, the ball and strike count on the agency is no balls and two strikes," Hayden added. "We don't take any pitches that are close to the strike zone. We are very, very careful. We can't go back to the American people with, 'Oh, well, we're sorry for this one, too.' We don't get close to the Fourth Amendment.
Hayden gave speeches. He went on television, and he talked to newspaper reporters and to authors writing books about the agency. He even hosted off-the-record dinners for the press at his horne at Fort Meade. A key element of Hayden's case was his argument that the NSA was struggling to cope with the rapid pace of change in an age of information overload, a new world of cell phones and Black-Berries and Internet telephone calls. The NSA was collecting more communications than anyone could ever listen to; even its supercomputers, with artificial-intelligence software, had trouble sorting the wheat from the chaff. Downplaying the NSA's capabilities, Hayden liked to say that the NSA was once an information-age organization in the industrial age, and now it was an information-age organization in the information age. It was losing its competitive edge. Commercially available communications technology was catching up. Hayden's implicit message was that the NSA was too archaic, maybe even too incompetent, to spy on America. Hayden didn't say that the NSA was a toothless giant, but he certainly wanted everyone to believe that the NSA was not to be feared.
"Despite what you've seen on television, our agency doesn't do alien autopsies, track the location of your automobile by satellite, nor do we have a squad of assassins," Hayden said reassuringly in a speech at American University in Washington in 2000. "The best 1 can hope for now is to wipe away some of the mystique surrounding the National Security Agency."
But that was Michael Hayden before 9/11.
Since the attacks, the NSA, with Hayden at the helm until 2005, has been transformed by the Bush administration, in ways that Hayden and other administration officials don't want to talk about. In fact, for the first time since the Watergate-era abuses, the NSA is spying on Americans again, and on a large scale.
The Bush administration has swept aside nearly thirty years of rules and regulations and has secretly brought the NSA back into the business of domestic espionage. The NSA is now eavesdropping on as many as five hundred people in the United States at any given time and it potentially has access to the phone calls and e-mails of millions more. It does this without court-approved search warrants and with little independent oversight.
President Bush has secretly authorized the NSA to monitor and eavesdrop on large volumes of telephone calls, e-mail messages, and other Internet traffic inside the United States to search for potential evidence of terrorist activity, without search warrants or any new laws that would permit such domestic intelligence collection. Under a secret presidential order signed in early 2002, only months after the September 11 attacks, President Bush has given the NSA the ability to conduct surveillance on communications inside the United States. The secret decision by the president has opened up America's domestic telecommunications network to the NSA in unprecedented and deeply troubling new ways, and represents a radical shift in the accepted policies and practices of the modern U.S. intelligence community.
The NSA is now tapping into the heart of the nation's telephone network through direct access to key telecommunications switches that carry many of America's daily phone calls and e-mail messages. Several government officials who know about the NSA operation have come forward to talk about it because they are deeply troubled by it, and they believe that by keeping silent they would become complicit in it. They strongly believe that the president's secret order is in violation of the Fourth Amendment of the Constitution, which prohibits unreasonable searches, and some of them believe that an investigation should be launched into the way the Bush administration has turned the intelligence community's most powerful tools against the American people.
One government lawyer who is aware of the NSA domestic surveillance operation told reporter Eric Lichtblau that the very few people at the Justice Department who are aware of its existence simply refer to it as "the Program." It may be the largest domestic spying operation since the 1960s, larger than anything conducted by the FBI or CIA inside the United States since the Vietnam War.
In order to overturn the system established by FISA in 1978, and bring the NSA back into domestic wiretaps without court approval, administration lawyers have issued a series of secret legal opinions, similar to those written in support of the harsh interrogation tactics used on detainees captured in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Bush administration legal opinions that supported the use of harsh interrogation techniques on al Qaeda detainees have, of course, proven controversial, drawing complaints from allies, objections from civil liberties advocates, and court challenges. The administration faced its first serious legal rebuke in June 2004 when the U.S. Supreme Court rejected the administration's effort to hold "enemy combatants" without a hearing. The court warned that "a state of war is not a blank check for the president."
The same could be said about the Program. Yet the NSA domestic spying operation has remained secret, and so the legal opinions and other documents related to the NSA program are still classified.
The administration apparently has several legal opinions to support the NSA operation, written by lawyers at the White House, the CIA, the NSA, and the Justice Department. They all rely heavily on a broad interpretation of Article Two of the Constitution, which grants power to the president as commander in chief of the armed forces. Relying largely on those constitutional powers, Congress passed a resolution just days after the September 11 attacks granting the president the authority to wage a global war on terrorism, and Bush administration lawyers later decided that the war resolution provided the legal basis they needed to support the NSA operation to eavesdrop on American citizens.
While the Bush administration has never publicly discussed the NSA operation, the Justice Department did hint at the administration's thinking on domestic spying in a little-noticed legal brief in an unrelated court case in 2002. That brief said that "the Constitution vests in the president inherent authority to conduct warrantless intelligence surveillance (electronic or otherwise) of foreign powers or their agents, and Congress cannot by statute extinguish that constitutional authority." The search for foreign "agents" has led the NSA to peer into domestic streams of data.
Debate within the government about the moral and legal issues involved in the NSA operation has been extremely limited because only a handful of high-ranking government officials are aware of the existence of the eavesdropping program. "It was a closed program," said one very senior administration official. "People normally in the chain didn't have access to it."
At the Justice Department, then-Attorney General John Ashcroft was one of the few people informed, and he then brought in a small, select group of like-minded conservative lawyers to help craft some of the legal opinions to buttress the Program. They may have been some of the same lawyers involved in the legal opinions supporting the harsh interrogation techniques.
The NSA eavesdropping operation has been hidden inside a "special access program," a level of secrecy reserved for the government's most sensitive covert operations. "This is the biggest secret I know about," said one official who was deeply troubled by what he knew.
Bush administration officials justify the presidential order by arguing that existing rules curbing the domestic powers of the NSA and CIA impeded the United States in detecting and preventing terrorist attacks. They say that the NSA domestic spying operation is critical to the global war on terrorism, although they offer few specifics. They have not explained why any terrorist would be so naive as to assume that his electronic communication was impossible to intercept.
The small handful of experts on national security law within the government who know about the NSA program say they believe it has made a mockery of the public debate over the Patriot Act. The Patriot Act of 2001 has been widely criticized for giving the government too much power to engage in secret searches and to spy on suspects, and even some Republicans chafed at the idea of giving the government still more surveillance powers under an extended and expanded version. The Patriot Act has increased the ability of the nation's intelligence and law-enforcement agencies to monitor conversations and Internet traffic by terrorist suspects with the approval of the special FISA court. But it still requires the FBI to obtain search warrants from the FISA court each time it wants to eavesdrop on a telephone conversation, e-mail message, or other form of communication within the United States. In order to obtain a warrant from the FISA court, the FBI must present evidence to show that the target is linked to a terrorist organization or other foreign agent or power. Even then, the FBI has, in comparison with the NSA, relatively limited technological resources and doesn't have the ability to monitor huge telecommunications networks. It lacks NSA's banks of supercomputers at Fort Meade, believed to be home to the greatest concentration of computing power in the world.
The Patriot Act has given no new powers to the NSA. The Bush administration purposely did not seek congressional approval for the NSA operation, apparently because the White House recognized that it would be too controversial and would almost certainly be rejected. "There is nothing explicit in the Patriot Act for NSA," said one former congressional aide who was involved in the drafting of the Patriot Act, but who was unaware of the NSA operation. "Their surveillance is supposed to be directed outside the United States."
It is now clear that the White House went through the motions of the public debate over the Patriot Act, all the while knowing that the intelligence community was secretly conducting a far more aggressive domestic surveillance campaign. "This goes way beyond the Patriot Act," said one former official familiar with the NSA operation.
President Bush's secret order has given the NSA the freedom to employ extremely powerful computerized search programs -- originally intended to scan foreign communications -- in order to scrutinize large volumes of American communications. It is difficult to know the precise size of the NSA operation, but one indication of its large scale is the fact that administration officials say that one reason they decided not to seek court-approved search warrants for the NSA operation was that the volume of telephone calls and e-mails being monitored was so big that it would be impossible to get speedy court approval for all of them. It is certainly true that when the FISA court was created, Congress never envisioned that the NSA would be involved in a massive eavesdropping operation inside the United States. No one in the 1970s could have predicted the enormous growth of telecommunications traffic in the United States, or the degree to which Americans would become addicted to digital, electronic communications. Today, industry experts estimate that approximately 9 trillion e-mails are sent in the United States each year. Americans make nearly a billion cell phone calls and well over a billion land line calls each day.
NSA's technical prowess, coupled with its long-standing relationships with the nation's major telecommunications companies, has made it easy for the agency to eavesdrop on large numbers of people in the United States without their knowledge. Following President Bush's order, U.S. intelligence officials secretly arranged with top officials of major telecommunications companies to gain access to large telecommunications switches carrying the bulk of America's phone calls. The NSA also gained access to the vast majority of American e-mail traffic that flows through the U.S. telecommunications system. The identities of the companies involved have been kept secret. Unknown to most Americans, the NSA has extremely close relationships with both the telecommunications and computer industries, according to several government officials. Only a very few top executives in each corporation are aware of such relationships or know about the willingness of the corporations to cooperate on intelligence matters.
The main rationale behind the Program, officials said, was that existing rules curbing the domestic powers of the NSA and CIA had left gaps in the ability of the United States to detect and prevent terrorist attacks. They say that one such gap had opened up because many purely international communications -- telephone calls and e-mail messages from the Middle East to Asia, for example -- end up going through telecommunications switches that are physically based in the United States. As a result, the rules that limit domestic intelligence gathering by the NSA have meant that such international calls could not be monitored, since they were transiting the United States. Some phone calls and e-mail traffic among terrorists operating overseas were being missed by American counterterrorism investigators.
The new presidential order has given the NSA direct access to those U.S.-based telecommunications switches through "back doors." Under the authority of the presidential order, a small group of officials at NSA now monitors telecommunications activity through these domestic switches, searching for terrorism-related intelligence.
To understand how the Bush administration is spying on the American people, it is important to know a few basics about the U.S. telecommunications network. The telephone network today is digital and computerized, but is still built around a switching system that routes calls from city to city, or country to country, as efficiently and quickly as possible.
In addition to handling telephone calls from, say, Los Angeles to New York, the switches also act as gateways into and out of the United States for international telecommunications. A large volume of purely international telephone calls -- calls that do not begin or end in America -- also now travel through switches based in the United States. Telephone calls from Asia to Europe, for example, may go through the United States-based switches. This so-called transit traffic has dramatically increased in recent years as the telephone network has become increasingly globalized. Computerized systems determine the most efficient routes for digital "packets" of electronic communications depending on the speed and congestion on the networks, not necessarily on the shortest line between two points. Such random global route selection means that the switches carrying calls from Cleveland to Chicago, for example, may also be carrying calls from Islamabad to Jakarta. In fact, it is now difficult to tell where the domestic telephone system ends and the international network begins.
In the years before 911, the NSA apparently recognized that the remarkable growth in transit traffic was becoming a major issue that had never been addressed by FISA or the other 1970s-era rules and regulations governing the U.S. intelligence community. Now that foreign calls were being routed through switches that were physically on American soil, eavesdropping on those calls might be a violation of the regulations and laws restricting the NSA from spying inside the United States.
But transit traffic also presented a major opportunity. If the NSA could gain access to the American switches, it could easily monitor millions of foreign telephone calls, and do so much more consistently and effectively than it could overseas, where it had to rely on spy satellites and listening stations to try to vacuum up telecommunications signals as they bounced through the air. Of course, that would mean NSA would also have direct access to the domestic telephone network as well.
Any debate within the NSA about the legalities of monitoring transit traffic became moot after 9/11. President Bush was determined to sweep away the peacetime rules that had curbed the activities of the U.S. intelligence community since the 1970s, and he readily agreed to give the NSA broad new powers. The Bush administration's answer has been to place the NSA right into the middle of the American communications bloodstream by giving the agency the secret "trapdoors" into the switching system. One outside expert on communications privacy who previously worked at the NSA said that the United States government has recently been quietly encouraging the telecommunications industry to increase the amount of international communications traffic that is routed through American-based switches. It appears that at least one motive for doing so may be to bring more international calls under NSA scrutiny.
According to government officials, some of the most critical switches are in the New York area, a key intersection between the domestic and international telecommunications networks. Switching facilities in the region feed out to telecommunications cables that dive into the Atlantic Ocean bound for Europe and beyond. The NSA now apparently has access into those switches, allowing it to monitor telecommunications traffic as it enters and exits the United States.
In addition, the NSA has the ability to conduct surveillance on the e-mail of virtually any American it chooses to target. One of the secrets of the Internet is that its infrastructure is dominated by the United States, and that much of the world's e-mail traffic, at one time or another, flows through telecommunications networks that are physically on American soil. E-mail between Germany and Italy, for example, or Pakistan and Yemen, is often routed through America. The secret presidential order has given the NSA the freedom to peruse that international e-mail traffic -- along with the e-mail of millions of Americans.
In the Program, the NSA is eavesdropping both on transit traffic -- calls from one foreign location to another that are routed through the United States by international telecommunications systems -- and on telephone calls and e-mail between people inside the United States and others overseas. Officials who defend the Program claim that the NSA tries to minimize the amount of purely domestic telephone and Internet traffic among American citizens that it monitors, to avoid violating the privacy rights of U.S. citizens. But there is virtually no independent oversight of NSA's use of its new power. With its direct access to the U.S. telecommunications system, there seems to be no physical or logistical obstacle to prevent the NSA from eavesdropping on anyone in the United States that it chooses.
NSA also claims that it is eavesdropping only on people suspected of having links to terrorism, but there is no way to confirm exactly who in the United States is being monitored by the agency. According to officials familiar with the NSA operation, it was launched in 2002 after the CIA began to capture high-ranking al Qaeda operatives overseas. At the time of their capture, the CIA also seized their computers, cell phones, and personal phone directories and flew them to the United States for examination.
As the al Qaeda operatives began to fall into American hands, their seized laptops, cell phones, and directories led to the discovery of telephone numbers and e-mail addresses of people with whom they had communicated all around the world. The CIA turned those names, addresses, and numbers over to the NSA, which then began monitoring those numbers, as well as the numbers of anyone in contact with them, and so on outward in an expanding network of phone numbers and Internet addresses, both in the United States and overseas.
In the Program, the NSA determines, on its own, which telephone numbers and e-mail addresses to monitor. The NSA doesn't have to get approval from the White House, the Justice Department, or anyone else in the Bush administration before it begins eavesdropping on a specific phone line inside the United States. Instead, it has set up its own internal checklist to determine whether there is "probable cause" to begin surveillance. The Bush administration argues that the NSA checklist substitutes for the determination of probable cause in a court of law, but neither federal prosecutors nor other Justice Department attorneys even review the case of a suspect before the NSA begins to listen to his or her phone lines. Occasionally, top Justice Department officials audit the NSA program, but the NSA unilaterally decides on whom to spy. Bush's executive order gives the NSA broad latitude to decide what might constitute a suspicious phone number or e-mail address.
The existence of the Program has been kept so secret that senior Bush administration officials have gone to great lengths to hide the origins of the intelligence it gathers. When the NSA finds potentially useful intelligence in the U.S.-based telecommunications switches, it is "laundered" before it is widely distributed to case officers at the CIA or special agents of the FBI, officials said. Reports are said not to identify that the intelligence came from intercepts of U.S.-based telecommunications.
Bush administration officials offer conflicting information about whether intelligence gathered from the warrantless wiretaps is being used in criminal cases inside the United States. One senior administration official insisted that it never has been used in a criminal trial, but other top officials argued that the eavesdropping program has proved valuable in domestic terrorism investigations. Actually, both statements may be true. It appears that the NSA wiretaps are being used to identify suspects in the United States. But because the intelligence based on the warrantless wiretaps would almost certainly not be admissible in an American court, it is possible that the Bush administration is not attempting to take those cases to trial. Several high-profile terrorism-related cases since 9/11 have ended in plea bargains and out-of-court settlements; few have actually gone to trial. One reason for that legal strategy may be that the administration is fearful of getting caught conducting illegal surveillance operations.
The government has a number of ways to cover up the NSA's role in the domestic surveillance of people inside the United States. In some instances, the government seeks FISA court approval for wiretaps on individuals who have already been secretly subjected to warrantless eavesdropping by the NSA.
The Bush administration justifies that procedure by saying that the government obtains search warrants if it wants to eavesdrop on the purely domestic telephone calls -- between two phones inside the United States -- of the individuals under surveillance through the NSA program. Since the NSA is supposed to focus on international "transit traffic" and telephone calls and e-mail messages between someone in the United States and someone overseas, government officials say that they seek FISA warrants when they decide to go further to monitor all of the communications of an individual suspect.
But that process of obtaining a search warrant is clearly tainted.
The Bush administration is obtaining FISA court approval for wiretaps at least in part on the basis of information gathered from the earlier warrantless eavesdropping. The government is apparently following that practice with increasing frequency; by the estimate of two lawyers, some 10 percent to 20 percent of the search warrants issued by the secret FISA court now grow out of information generated by the NSA's domestic surveillance program.
Bush administration officials say that the NSA is using the Program to conduct surveillance on the telephone and e-mail communications of about seven thousand people overseas. They also acknowledge that the NSA is targeting the communications of about five hundred people inside the United States. Each one of those individuals is likely to make several phone calls and send several e-mails each day, which could mean that the NSA is eavesdropping on thousands of telephone calls, e-mail messages, and other communications inside the United States on a daily basis. Over time, the NSA has certainly eavesdropped on millions of telephone calls and e-mail messages on American soil.
The expansion of NSA's role from spying on foreigners to conducting domestic surveillance has implications that are sure to provoke objections from civil liberties advocates. Even some senior officials within the administration have raised questions about the Program's legality. Government officials who were aware of the surveillance program "just assumed that something illegal was going on," said one Justice Department official. "People just looked the other way because they didn't want to know what was going on."
Some senior Bush administration officials learned the outlines of the NSA operation but were never officially briefed and were stunned that the White House and Justice Department would approve the domestic spying. "This is really a sea change," said a former senior law enforcement official who questioned both its legal and public-policy aspects. "It's almost a mainstay of this country that the NSA only does foreign searches."
After President Bush signed the secret order authorizing the NSA eavesdropping operation, the Bush administration quietly notified the chief judge on the secret FISA court that approves national security wiretaps. That judge was then-U.S. District Court Judge Royce C. Lamberth, a genial, rotund Texan and a Republican. The administration didn't ask for his approval, and he didn't stand in the way when the government decided not to seek search warrants for the NSA program.
The NSA operation was scaled back, at least briefly, in the spring of2004 when the federal judge who succeeded Lamberth as chief of the FISA court raised questions about how the NSA program was being used to generate intelligence. The concerns raised by District Court Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly clearly rattled the Bush administration. One official said he believed that the Program was effectively halted for about three weeks. Other top administration officials suggested that they abandoned some of the most aggressive techniques used in the NSA surveillance operation after the judge complained.
Some congressional leaders have been notified about the Program, but only in extraordinarily secret fashion and only in ways that guarantee they feel constrained from raising objections to it. Even when one lawmaker did secretly raise concerns, he was ignored by the White House. In 2002, soon after the NSA operation began, top congressional leaders from both political parties were brought to Vice President Dick Cheney's White House office and were briefed about it by Cheney, Hayden, and then-CIA director George Tenet. The congressional leaders, including Democratic Senator Bob Graham of Florida and Republican Senator Richard Shelby of Alabama, at the time the chairman and vice chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, respectively, were not permitted to bring staff members to the meeting and were told not to discuss the matter with anyone else. It was difficult for the congressional leaders to ask any questions about the Program, because they were unable to ask their staff to do any research or oversight of the NSA operation. The congressional leaders apparently knew only what Cheney and other top administration officials told them about the Program.
Later, after new lawmakers took over the intelligence committees, only one congressional leader, Senator Jay Rockefeller, a Democrat of West Virginia, raised any concerns with the White House. After he was first briefed on the matter in early 2003, Senator Rockefeller wrote a letter to Cheney saying that he was troubled by the NSA operation and its potential for the abuse of the civil liberties of American citizens.
Rockefeller told the White House in advance that he was planning to write the letter raising objections. In response, he was told by administration officials that he had to write the letter himself. Rockefeller followed the directions and handed over the letter, but there is no evidence that he ever received a response from Cheney.
The few other Democrats who have been briefed on the operation have fallen into line with the White House, perhaps intimidated by the broad public support for tough counterterrorism measures following 9/11. But at least one other senior Democrat who was briefed later regretted accepting the administration's decision to launch the operation and realized that the White House had trapped the congressional leaders. By giving the lawmakers secret briefings with no staff present and then demanding that they never discuss the matter with anyone, the congressional leaders were paralyzed. As time wore on, it became increasingly difficult for Democrats to protest the operation, since the White House could argue that they had been receiving briefings for years and had barely complained.
One government lawyer said he went to a congressional official in 2004 to reveal what he knew about the NSA eavesdropping operation because he believed that it was unconstitutional. But nothing happened as a result of his congressional contacts. He did not know that congressional leaders had already been notified.
Apart from the very small number of senior senators and congressmen who have been briefed by the White House on the NSA program, most members of Congress believe that FISA ended, once and for all, the right of the government to conduct secret wiretaps inside the United States without search warrants or court approval. Some experts in national security law say that past presidents have periodically -- and very quietly -- asserted that despite FISA, they reserved the right to order warrantless wiretaps in the United States under extreme circumstances for national security purposes. But that never became an issue with Congress in the past, because until now, no president has ever actually exercised that authority since FISA became law.
The legal opinions supporting the NSA operation followed secret deliberations over expanding the NSA's role. For example, just days after the September 11, 2001 attacks, John Yoo, a Justice Department lawyer in the Office of Legal Counsel, wrote an internal memorandum that argued that the government might use "electronic surveillance techniques and equipment that are more powerful and sophisticated than those available to law enforcement agencies in order to intercept telephonic communications and observe the movement of persons but without obtaining warrants for such uses." Yoo noted that while such actions could raise constitutional issues, in the face of devastating terrorist attacks, he wrote, "the government may be justified in taking measures which in less troubled conditions could be seen as infringements of individual liberties."
But that was not an argument that the Bush administration wanted to test openly in Congress. Seeking congressional approval was viewed as politically risky because the proposal would be certain to face intense opposition from civil liberties groups. In order to support the White House decision not to seek new legislation to support the NSA operation, administration lawyers secretly argued that new laws were unnecessary because the post-9/11 congressional resolution on the war on terror provided ample authorization.
In the end, the administration's justifications for the NSA domestic surveillance operation fail to explain adequately why it would not be possible to conduct surveillance of terrorist suspects with courtapproved search warrants under the FISA rules. Several government officials said they have not had any trouble obtaining search warrants for wiretaps from the FISA court since the September 11 attacks. The number of warrants approved by the court doubled between 2001 and 2003, when more than 1,700 foreign intelligence warrants were executed, according to the Justice Department. The government has also not had any difficulty in keeping those courtapproved wiretaps secret. In the most sensitive cases, the wiretap requests can be handled under such tight security that knowledge of them is restricted to the highest levels of the executive branch on a need-to-know basis.
During the public debate over the Patriot Act, Bush administration officials noted reassuringly that the legislation would not expand the powers of the NSA, as if to underscore their argument that privacy concerns over the Patriot Act were being exaggerated by critics of the legislation. Even Yoo made the point, in an op-ed piece in the Wall Street Journal that the Patriot Act's critics had a cartoonish view of the law. "Civil libertarians would have us believe that the Patriot Act allows CIA and NSA agents to roam freely through the country detaining anyone they please," Yoo wrote. "Nothing could be further from the truth."
One of the most worrisome aspects of the NSA's move into domestic surveillance is that it appears to be part of a broader series of policies and procedures put in place by the Bush administration that threaten to erode civil liberties in the United States. Across the administration, many questionable actions taken in the heat of the moment after the September 11attacks have quietly become more permanent, lowering the bar on what is acceptable when it comes to the government's ability to intrude into the personal lives of average Americans. For example, in 2002 the U.S. military expanded its role inside the country with the creation of the new Northern Command, the first military command in recent history that is designed to protect the U.S. homeland. The creation of Northern Command has already raised the specter of military intelligence agents operating on U.S. soil, permanently developing new links with local law enforcement agencies, particularly those near large military bases. Few objections have been raised.
Since the Program was instituted, Hayden has been rewarded by President Bush. In 2005, Hayden was named deputy director of national intelligence, making him the top lieutenant to John Negroponte, the director of national intelligence, the top intelligence post created by the post-9/11 intelligence reforms. During his Senate confirmation hearings for his new position, Hayden was never asked publicly about the NSA's covert domestic intelligence program.
In private, he has been defensive about his role in domestic spying. Hayden has said that the operations being conducted by NSA are "legal, appropriate, and effective" as part of the war on terrorism. He has little else to say, other than that the matter is "intensely operational." The Program was still active in late 2005, several officials said.

“The Euro-Asian Alliance: Shifts in the Global Balance of Power”, makes the case for a cooperative effort between France, Germany, Russia and China, “to create a rival power center capable of opposing the execution of detrimental foreign policy by the United States”. The greatest threat of such a cooperative alliance is the possibility of its expansion throughout the globe and utilization of covert terror operations to achieve its objectives. This threat concept is called GUTRUSH or Globally United Terror Response to United States Hegemony. The likelihood of a GUTRUSH initiative is strong when consideration is given to the expanding political, economic and military relationships of the Euro-Asian Alliance members with countries that pose potential nuclear and/or terror threats to U.S. interests. Only ignorance and hubris could allow anyone to believe that countries many years older than the U.S. would not resort to cooperative terror operations if world opinion, international law and U.N. resolutions did not protect their interests. In many parts of the world, the U.S. is viewed as a deaf bully, unwilling to hear or listen to any other countries opinion. This fact and the perception that the U.S. unfairly supports Israel through a biased and prejudiced foreign policy gives America’s enemies more than one thing in common, more than one motive in common and forces them to be creative in their responses to U.S. hegemony.

Concerning the EU, the CIA’s, 2003, Unclassified Report to Congress on the Acquisition of Technology Relating to Weapons of Mass Destruction, states the following. “Iran continued to successfully procure dual use goods and materials from Europe. In addition, several Western European countries remained willing to negotiate Advanced Conventional Weapons sales to Libya, India, Pakistan and other countries to preserve their domestic defense industries. North Korea approached Western European entities to obtain acquisitions for its uranium enrichment program.” This information makes it quite evident that Europe does not share the United States “axis of evil” philosophy.

EU members certainly consider their Islamic population and geographic proximity to Islamic countries. According to former career CIA agent, Robert Baer, in his book, “See No Evil”; “It didn’t take a sophisticated intelligence organization to figure out that Europe, our traditional ally in the war against bad guys, had become a hothouse of Islamic fundamentalism”. Spain and Turkey have already suffered significant terror attacks for their support of the US‘s war in Iraq. It is reasonable to believe other European countries have given these potentials careful consideration.

We have also seen the terrorists express their appreciation for a European policy of non-intervention in the US led war in Iraq. A blatant display of such appreciation occurred when terrorist released their hostages after learning that they were French. In the meantime, American hostages continue to be beheaded with rapidity. In these base physical actions the implied understanding between Europe and the terrorists is one of cooperation. The following facts also make a strong case for the likelihood of European involvement in Operation GUTRUSH. Much of the planning for the 9/11 attacks took place in Europe. If nothing else this indicates a level of comfort that violently anti-American terrorists feel in the European environment. No terrorist attacks have occurred in France or Germany since the beginning of Operation Iraqi Freedom. This indicates that the terrorists believe any possible statement they could make in these countries is not worth jeopardizing the current relationship, whatever that relationship may be. Shortly after the 9/11 attacks took place a French author published a number one bestseller that stated the Pentagon was hit by a missile and not an airplane. The implication is that America purposely struck its own Department of Defense for political purposes. That such an accusation reached bestseller status indicates that its theme was popular and/or was intended to be so. The challenges in US-French relations since 2001 are well documented.

We can imagine that the French are throwing temper tantrums like misbehaving children whose greatest threat is to our eardrums or we can believe that the French, who have survived two World Wars and heavy attacks by foreign troops on their own soil, have made contingency plans. If the latter is true, then GUTRUSH, a Globally United Terror Response to United States Hegemony, may be considered a viable option by the French and other EU members for protecting their interests. Once we understand how our former allies could feel pushed far enough into a corner to participate in a GUTRUSH it is that much easier to envision participation by Russia and China. The key to a effective GUTRUSH is that world powers like the EU, Russia and China, who have already voiced their displeasure, discontent, and desire to limit US hegemony, begin proactively enhancing the economic, political and military apparatus of second tier or perimeter nation states outside the Alliance.

In the CIA’s, 2003, Unclassified Report to Congress on the Acquisition of Weapons of Mass Destruction, the CIA expresses continuing concern about Chinese nuclear cooperation with Iran and Pakistan. China has offered significant assistance to Pakistan and Iran on ballistic missile related projects. Thanks to Chinese assistance Pakistan has moved toward domestic serial production of Short Range and Medium Range solid propellant ballistic missiles. Chinese entity ballistic missile related assistance helped Iran move toward it’s goal of becoming self-sufficient in the production of ballistic missiles. In addition, firms in China provided dual-use missile-related items, raw material, and/or assistance to several other countries of proliferation concern-such as Iran, Libya and North Korea. Chinese firms are still providing dual-use chemical weapons related equipment and technology to Iran, as well as, Advanced Conventional Weapons to Pakistan and Iran.

According to the Secretary of Defense’s, 2003, “Annual Report on the Military Power of The People’s Republic of China”, Beijing apparently believes that the US poses a significant long-term challenge. China’s leaders have asserted that the US seeks to maintain a dominant geostrategic position by containing the growth of Chinese power, ultimately “dividing” and “Westernizing” China, and preventing a resurgence of Russian power. Beijing has interpreted the strengthened US-Japan security alliance, increased US presence in the Asia-Pacific region-including Central Asia—and efforts to expand NATO as manifestations of Washington’s strategy. While seeking a stable relationship with Washington, Beijing will continue to seek opportunities to diminish US regional influence.

The PLA’s (People’s Liberation Army) strategy places a strong emphasis on surprise. Their writings indicate a number of methodologies that could enhance the success of surprise, including strategic and operational deception, electronic warfare, and wearing down or desensitizing and opponents’ political and military leadership. At least one objective would be to reduce indications and warning of military action. For there to be no indications via satellite or humint would require that the PLA does not move. Subsidizing covert terror attacks through jihaddi organization would allow for that while providing the ultimate surprise.

Most interesting in this Department of Defense report are the following sentences. “Beijing apparently believes that the US poses a significant long-term challenge. China’s leaders have asserted that the US seeks to maintain a dominant geostrategic position by containing the growth of Chinese power, ultimately “dividing” and “Westernizing” China, and preventing a resurgence of Russian power.” What’s interesting in this analysis, if accurate, is that it states clearly that China and Russia have the same geostrategic national security interests.

To prevent the resurgence of Russian power the US is determined to divide and Westernize China. That is another way of stating what the Chinese believe regarding US policy and strategy in the region. The word “divide” is a direct assault on what China considers the most essential condition for its national survival and development…”national unity”. That makes the US the number one security threat and concern of Chinese policymakers and intelligence heads. The US may want to ask itself the following question and carefully consider the answer. What are the implications of Chinese and Russian participation in a Globally United Terror Response to United States Hegemony (GUTRUSH) if China places its own sovereignty and stability second to “national unity” under a Marxist/Maoist government?

This brings us to the final and perhaps most important nation in the Euro-Asian Alliance’s push into a GUTRUSH, Russia. Many in US intelligence understand the formidability of the KGB far better than the author. With that in mind it is quite doubtful that KGB spy Vladimir Putin reflects fondly upon his Soviet Republic’s Cold War losses as he decides upon Russian foreign policy. As documented in “The Euro-Asian Alliance: Shifts in the Global Balance of Power”, the result of a 2003 meeting between Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing and Russian Foreign Minister Ivanov resulted in the following statements out of China’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

Regarding President Hu Jintao and President Putin,

“They emphasized that whatever changes the international situation may undergo, China and Russia will give priority to bilateral relations in their respective foreign policies and their policy of deepening and developing bilateral strategic coordination in various fields will remain intact, and that the mechanism of high level contacts and the cooperation between the two countries will continue to be intensified.”

Foreign Ministry Comrades Ivanov and Jintao agree on many things including “the Iraqi issue, North Korea nuclear issue and other international issues.”

Whatever Vladimir Putin is thinking in regards to the Old Cold War, the United States and the future of Russia, China is on board. Not only is China on board diplomatically and politically but there is a few billion dollars in Chinese currency getting on board every year for Russian military training and hardware.

As we continue delving into the concept of GUTRUSH and analyzing the thoughts, feelings, actions and statements of the Euro-Asian Alliance it becomes apparent that the concept may already have moved into reality. The most likely brain center for GUTRUSH would be in Russia. China’s foreign policy appears to be one of deception, especially the appearance of amicability for purposes of economic gain. The EU is an ally of the US through NATO and other institutions, thus making it to risky a location to support the GUTRUSH brain center. Russia, on the other hand, has had a head start since it has been going head to head with the US for decades. One captured Russian spy said that the dissolution of the USSR was actually a KGB operation. It would be interesting to know exactly what he meant.

According to the CIA’s Unclassified Report to Congress on the Acquisition of Technology Relating to Weapons of Mass Destruction, Russia is an active player. Russia has assisted Iran in building the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant. In relation to ballistic missile related goods and technical know how Russia has supplied Iran, India and China. Russian entities remain a key source of equipment, chemicals and expertise for countries of concern with active Chemical and Biological Weapons programs. Russia continues to be a major supplier of conventional arms. As of November 2000 Russian officials stated that they saw Iran as potentially being Russia’s third largest conventional weapons customer behind China and India. Other customers are Libya and Sudan.

A pattern has definitely developed. The Euro-Asian Alliance of the EU, Russia and China has been established. The relationships between all of the Alliance members are far superior to any alliance member’s relations with the US. The Alliance members have all experienced financial losses as a result of US unilateral action in Iraq. The Alliance members are all supporting Iran and North Korea both of which happen to be the two remaining countries in the US’s “axis of evil”. This support includes the procurement and development of Weapons of Mass Destruction. In essence, the Euro-Asian Alliance members are doing everything in their power to support countries that the US has identified as a proliferation and/or terrorist threat. The only thing the Alliance hasn’t done is make the following announcement.

“We the Euro-Asian Alliance will begin actively and directly supporting terrorist operations against the United States of America. We will begin by providing covert financing and operational strategy to terrorist attacks on the U.S. in Iraq and Afghanistan. We will then begin covertly attacking US assets throughout the Middle East and Eurasian continent. These attacks will certainly occur on Alliance members’ soil primarily impacting US interests while causing minimal collateral damage to Alliance members. This collateral damage will be small enough so as not to impact Alliance infrastructure, yet large enough to exacerbate anti-US sentiment. Initially these attacks will be carried out only through jihaddis whom the alliance will support through a multi-layered splinter cell structure. The actual executors of the attacks will have no inkling of Alliance support. Then on a selective basis attacks on US interests will be carried out by elite members of Alliance intelligence organizations within the framework and footprint of a typical jihaddi operation. As the US begins to find itself reeling to and fro from vast number of attacks on its international interests the Alliance will begin initiating Operation Nightmare Scenario (ONS) on US soil.”

The Euro-Asian Alliance may not have spoken these words and perhaps they have not even considered the thought. Nevertheless, the potential for a GUTRUSH cannot be ignored. This is especially so considering that a GUTRUSH may appear to be the most effective method for the Euro-Asian Alliance to achieve its goals while maintaining plausible deniability. These goals would be to see the United States consumed by conflict in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere. Such consumption would allow Alliance members to pursue their goals with less opposition from the US. The ultimate goals of the Euro-Asian Alliance are a unified, militarily modernized EU capable of opposing unilateral US policy, a resurgent Russia, a united China, and strong nuclear powered neighbors in Iran, North Korea, India and Pakistan. These are just a few of the Alliance’s possible interests. A covert GUTRUSH could mutate into a push to get the US out of the Eurasian continent. This could further mutate into attacks on US interests in Canada, North and South America as the GUTRUSH expands. Ultimately, in Operation Nightmare Scenario (ONS), the EAA GUTRUSH will begin using the powers of space, the Galileo Satellite Network and the internet, as well as diplomatic pouches and NATO intelligence to achieve its goals.

The reality is that there is nothing with so devastating a potential to US National Security as a Globally United Terror Response to United States Hegemony (GUTRUSH). Therefore, it demands serious consideration.

Recent developments including news about Russian moles in Centcom providing military intelligence to Saddam Hussein may confirm some of the theories contained in this 2003 report.
